Letters with the information shared will be coming out over the next week. Last year, we had many people helping out at the various PTFA events. We are very grateful for all their help and ideas. We hope to see lots of you at the AGM next week with maybe some new ideas for this new year. We’re having great feedback from parents in the Home School diaries about their home readers and wow moments – it’s great to see that so many are making a great start in their reading this year. Please can you make sure your child does not ride their bike or scooter until they get to the little gate in the afternoons and that in the mornings, your child gets off when they arrive at the little gate. This is for everyone’s safety as the pathway is very busy and a collision with a bike or scooter is painful for both young and old. (Please don’t wait until I ‘catch’ them – let’s all try and prevent accidents!) Clubs There are various clubs on offer this term and we are still in the process of organising more. Lunchtimes: Young Museum club (once a month) and Bookworms for Y2, Y3 and Y4 on Wednesdays. Thursdays: Indoor football for Y3 and Y4 will start on Thursday 1st October. This is open to any number of children. Please can your child have daps and if possible, shin pads. The club finishes at 4.30pm and parents are asked to wait for their children in the front entrance. Fridays: Multisports (being organised by 1610). An opportunity to try a range of different sports each week including netball, basketball, cricket, dodgeball, hockey, football, etc. £3.00 per week payable as a course for each half term. This is for Y2 to Y4s from 3.30 to 4.30pm. Information on how to pay, etc will be given at the first session on Friday 25th September. (Gymnastics should be returning in January.) Parrot Club: Parrot Club is now open until 5.30 every evening and 6pm on a Wednesday. The programme of activities this term is: Mondays - cooking Tuesdays - games Wednesdays – outside play & cooked tea Thursdays – sewing, knitting, crafts Fridays – chill-out or homework time including computers The club is also open every morning from 7.45 with a range of starting time options. To find out more about the different rates, ask for a leaflet from the office. Triple P Positive Parenting Programme Has your family life become a bit chaotic? Are your children ruling the roost? Do you want to turn things round? Maybe we can help you find the solutions. This course is run over 8 sessions and each session lasts for 2 hours with refreshments. It is starting on Monday 28th September at 10am and is being run at Williton Children’s Centre. Contact Sue Burt if you are interested and would like to know more: 07807015236 or 01984 635980. Spark! You may have noticed that we are starting the term with lots of sparky activities to inspire and enthuse children. So far, we have had a Viking visitor, a ‘missing’ Humpty Dumpty mystery and planned visits to @Bristol, North Hill and Taunton Museum. The spark these activities have given to the children’s thinking has been great. As well as enthusing the children, we will use the different experiences to promote descriptive and technical vocabulary as well as learning about history, science and geography. Tinderbox Production AsOne Theatre Productions has an exciting invitation for a group of our children (7 to 9 years old) to be directly involved in a magical new play by award winning AsOne Theatre Company this autumn 2015. They are performing a much anticipated production of 'Tinderbox' - a captivating twist on a much loved Hans Christian Andersen’s story, with puppetry, shadow play, animated image and wonderful story-telling on Wednesday 28 October 1.30 pm (for 3 pm curtain-up) at The Regent Theatre, Minehead. They would be delighted if a group from our school could help open the performance for them. This wonderful, confidence building opportunity for our children to actively perform with a professional company is a great opportunity. Our group will learn a short song ahead of the show and the company will then rehearse them during the day of the performance. They will choreograph the children’s entrance through the auditorium, into the performing space, on the day at the theatre. They will also provide each of our group with a cardboard lantern template to make (with a battery candle) to carry during the opening sequence – affecting atmosphere and great fun all at the same time! The children then of course can become part of the audience, alongside paying friends and family, to enjoy the rest of the show. Let us know asap if you would like your child to take part. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to work alongside professionals in a magical piece of quality family theatre.
