WEEK 12 - Writtle 3rd v Old Chelmsfordians Writtle lost the toss and were asked to bat on a slow wet wicket. There was a minor hiccup when both Chris Canning and Adam Fowles were lost inside six over with only 14 on the board, but a partnership of 113 between the skipper and Paul Grimsey in the next 19 overs settled the ship and provided a good foundation. Paul was eventually out for a belligerent 78. Good contributions from Chris Wright, including two sixes over backward square, with others chipping in and 39 not out from Chris Davis enabled Writtle to reach 201/8 at the end of the 40 overs. Robson was the pick of the OC’s bowlers with 4- 38. A good opening partnership of Chris Wright, who was by far the quickest bowler and the left arm spin of Charlie Bush restricted the OC’s opening batsmen to less than two an over from the first 10 overs and from which the team never really recovered. Charlie was replaced by the right arm spin of Henry Blanks who bowled well with figures of 1-34 off eight overs. Joel Hibbitt finished with 2-26 off six overs and Michael High and Chris Canning took a wicket apiece. The OC’s innings finished on 147/6 giving Writtle a comfortable win by 54 runs. Man of the Match – Paul Grimsey – he was the only batsman on both sides to really put bat to ball and it paid off handsomely! We play Star next week who thrashed us by over a 100 runs at the beginning of the season so we have a score to settle. Fenton the Elder
