LITERATURE CIRCLES
For this literature project, you will have ten days to complete the novel of your choice.
Your reading will be accompanied by note-taking and discussions. You will work with other

POST-ITS: PREPARING FOR DISCUSSION
In preparation for each group discussion day, you will complete the assigned reading and
respond to the ideas presented in the reading. We will review in class how to use the
post-its while reading and discussing the book
Each day you will use your homework in discussion, and you will receive 10 pts of
homework credit for completing post-its. When the unit is finished, you will remove
your post-its from the book and place them on a sheet of paper in your binder. This way
you will be able to remember information about the book for your project and final exam.

DISCUSSIONS
The approximate timing for the discussion should be 20-25 minutes. The discussion
model is really in your group’s hands. What’s the best way to run your meeting?
Starting with a summary of the reading? Asking questions about what happened? Maybe
one person should pick their first post-it and start there. We’ll be sure to address issues
with the class and review the important skills of discussions. The idea is to learn what is
best for your group, so we’ll try a few different techniques including written responses,
drawing, etc. You will receive up to 2 participation points for each day of discussion so
it’s important to come prepared!
**A tutorial should be scheduled if you are having any difficulty at all with
understanding of the text or to get extra assistance with homework expectations.
