Lesson 2: Medieval Timelines Teacher’s cheat sheet The Battle of Hastings – 1066. William I’s reign – 1066–1087; 21 years. William Rufus inherited the throne in 1087; his reign last 13 years. Richard I’s reign: 10 years. 1189–1199. Henry III was 9 years old in 1216; his reign began in 1216. Edward I’s reign; 35 years. 1272–1307. Edward I expelled all Jews from England in 1290. William Wallace defeated the English army in 1297. Edward had been king for 26 years by the time he defeated William Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk. Robert Bruce was crowned King of Scotland in 1306. Scotland gained independence from the English in 1314. Edward II was crowned King of England in 1307. Edward III reigned for 50 years. The Peasants’ Revolt – 1381. In 1400 Henry IV suppressed the Epiphany Rising, executing several important noblemen for their attempt to restore Richard II to the throne. Henry IV – 1399; Henry V – 1413; Henry VI – 1422. The Battle of Mortimer’s Cross and Towton – 1461. Henry VI was imprisoned by Edward IV in 1461. Edward IV died in 1483.
