LABCAR HiL Systems − Proven in the Development of Hybrid Propulsion
Systems
The LABCAR HiL system from ETAS is deployed worldwide for applications such as
function, diagnostic, and acceptance testing. It is also proving its capabilities in numerous development projects of hybrid and fuel-cell propulsion systems. In that context, LABCAR excels especially because of its modular hardware architecture and its
ability to concurrently calculate model segments on different processor cores of the
multi-core simulation computer. The result is a clear advantage in time savings when
simulating many similar battery cells, or when testing the control functions of an inverter/electric motor. In the latter case, a clock cycle must be processed about 10 times
faster than with an internal combustion engine.
As regards the generation of electrical power − up to 150 kW for the purpose of testing electrical machines and inverter hardware − ETAS cooperates with third-party suppliers, such as Scienlab or Silver Atena. This enables ETAS to offer a package solution
for hybrid HiL systems. The Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Technology Business Unit at
Robert Bosch GmbH has introduced LABCAR HiL testing systems that reliably meet all
of the demands made on a hybrid testing system. The new HiL system at Robert
Bosch GmbH provides an impressive demonstration of the versatility of LABCAR, and
of the specific efficiency of the Scienlab emulators. As an added benefit, the system is
easily and economically adaptable to future requirements.
With regard to models, too, LABCAR is open to being extended through the addition of
third-party products. The PC-based architecture of the RTPC supports all major modeling tools, such as TESIS DYNAware, GT-Power, or CarSim.
Thanks to its open system architecture and its ability to effect model partitioning and
the subsequent, concurrent high-speed calculation of the resulting segments, LABCAR
is ideally suited for use with new propulsion concepts. As a tangible benefit, ETAS
supplies its comprehensive automotive expertise, which is also available for customerspecific solutions.
