In order to focus on student success, provide quality instruction, and communicate openly and honestly with students and parents, secondary teachers will publish a course syllabus each term. 2015-2016 Course Syllabus for Geometry Term 1 Teacher: Eric Sanchez E-mail: eric.sanchez@biloxischools.net Phone: 435-1421 ext: 2222 Teacher’s Web Site: http://www.biloxischools.net/Domain/1029 Objectives: Below is a general overview of what the teacher will teach, and what the student is expected to master. A mid-term progress report and a report card following the end of each term are issued. Unit Test. Unit tests are given at the completion of each unit. A missed test can be made up after school on each day after school except Wednesday. Students must sign up in classroom 1 day in advance to stay after school. Missed test will show up as a “1” in the online gradebook until made up. Activity grades are earned through graded assignments and quizzes. Missed activities in this category are to be made up after school on any day except Wednesday. http://www.biloxischools.net In order to focus on student success, provide quality instruction, and communicate openly and honestly with students and parents, secondary teachers will publish a course syllabus each term. Graded assignments are similar to a quiz. Students should be to the point where they can do this activity on their own; however, students may use notes and ask the teacher questions. This activity will be graded for accuracy. Each graded assignment represents 1 activity grade. Graded assignments are typically given the day before a quiz. Quizzes are taken just like a test (no notes or questions asked about how to work a problem). The intent is to give one to two quizzes prior to each unit test to help prepare students for the unit test. Planned quiz dates have been listed above in this document. Any quizzes not noted below will be announced in adequate time for students to prepare. Bell Ringers, classwork, and other assignments Bell Ringers and classwork assignments are used daily as an important part in the learning process. Bell ringers and assignments are critical for the teacher and student to determine the level of understanding during the introduction of material that will be tested. These activities can have a very positive effect on a student’s average by preparing the student for graded items. These items will be checked for completion and documentation; however, these activities will not affect the student’s average directly. Unit Test Retesting: Students have 10 school days from the date that a test score is made available to the student in INOW to attend a reteach session and attempt to improve a unit test score through retest. Students are required to complete any assignments for that particular unit to be eligible to retest. Students are to sign up in the classroom at least 1 day in advance to attend an after school reteach session to qualify for retesting. Per page 24 of the student handbook, this privilege is not to be abused. Graded assignments and quizzes do not qualify for a retest. Tutoring: Additional help is available on any Tuesday and Thursday that is not scheduled for a reteach session. Students are to sign up in the classroom at least 1 day in advance to attend an after school tutoring. Special cases may be possible on Monday or Friday. There will also be videos of each lesson on the teacher website. Helpful Math Websites: http://www.biloxischools.net/Domain/1029, khanacademy.org, purplemath.com, coolmath.com, shmoop.com.
