Job Purpose
The main purposes of the post are to co-ordinate and plan interventions in English for
students throughout the 11-18 age range who are in receipt of the pupil premium and also for
students arriving with low level 4 and level 3 in English
The post holder will be responsible for providing appropriate intervention resources for
students entering at level 4 in year 7 and for planning English programmes to meet the needs
of students in receipt of the Pupil Premium throughout the school.
Additionally, the post holder will liaise with all English teachers to ensure the provision of
appropriate interventions for pupils at risk of failing to meet their end of year target grades.

Dimensions
Students: Students in receipt of the Pupil Premium and those arriving with low level 4 and
level 3 in English
Staff: The post holder will be responsible for leading the training and development of English
intervention strategies across the department.
The post holder will liaise with both teaching and support staff.
The post holder is responsible for providing support staff involved with the delivery of
intervention sessions with appropriate resources.
Financial:
The post holder is responsible for any intervention, capitation and Development Funds
allocated to the intervention role in association with the Head of Department.

Principal Accountabilities
1. Identify the needs of students in receipt of the Pupil Premium and plan intervention
programmes to meet their needs.
2. To monitor the progress and attainment of Pupil Premium students in English ensuring
appropriate interventions are taken by the teachers and support staff to ensure that
this group of students catch up with other students in school.
3. To plan, coordinate and help deliver additional interventions, additional “out of lesson”
tuition and extra curricular activities to meet the needs and engage students in receipt
of the Pupil Premium.
4. To support teachers and support staff to identify the needs of Pupil Premium students
through the school and to support them in the improving the performance and
accelerating the progress of these students.
5. To identify year 7 pupils who, through their prior underachievement, need to be
included in the intervention programme on entry.
6. Produce short assessments to identify weaknesses/misconceptions.
7. Provide appropriate resources for the intervention sessions to be delivered by
HLTAs/TAs.
8. Produce end of intervention assessments to identify if progress has been made with
the content delivered.
9. Liaise with class teachers to identify the weakness of underachieving and pupil
premium pupils.
10. Ensure training provided as required for HLTAs/TAs.
11. Monitor progress of the intervention cohort and Pupil Premium students..
12. Report to H of D and SLT with summary of progress throughout the year after each key
assessment cycle.
13. Co-ordinate with the literacy co-ordinator with regard to pupils arriving with level 3.
14. After each assessment phase ensure that underachieving and Pupil Premium students
in need of intervention are identified and appropriate programs put in place.
15. Be a member of the Pupil Premium Strategy Group

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
1.
Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject

A teaching qualification
3.
Up – to – date knowledge of the teaching of the subject
4.
Experienced English teacher (minimum two years) with experience in a
comprehensive school

To have good understanding of the key stage 3 English curriculum.
Excellent subject knowledge.
To have expert knowledge and understanding of common misconceptions in English.
Experience of teaching across all abilities at both Key Stage 3 and 4.
Can demonstrate commitment to the life of the school outside the classroom
Commitment to sustaining regular attendance at work.
11. Performance Standards
The performance of the post holder will be measured through annual appraisal.
This will be carried out by the Head of Department. The review will consider performance
against:

