Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing

STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st
January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

FEEDING COWS – 42
A decent number, however quality a terrible show with most the entry older, poorer quality
sorts.
Mr AJ Archer sold Limousin Steers to 200.5p - £1213.03, older ‘O’ grade cows which were
very lean generally sold from 145-155p. A fantastic trade many more required
COWS & CALVES – 28
A decent number of cows and calves and some nice quality younger cows forward.
Trade was very sharp as the grass grows.
Messrs TSM & NH Bulgin, Thetford sold a nice run of Aberdeen Angus heifers with month
old steer calves at foot to £1780.00 with others at £1500 (twice).
Martin Spokes, South Croxton sold Limousin 28 month old heifers with month old Limousin
calves at foot to £1680 (twice). Messrs Salle Moor Hall, Norwich sold Black Hereford cows
(74m) with 2 month old Hereford heifer calves to £1150.
A great result – if you are looking for cows and calves we have over 300 spread over two
sales on June 8th and 15th and if you are looking to sell commercial cows and calves
Saturday June 15th is the day!!
STORE CATTLE
Still a very decent entry for the time of year and trade as fast as ever as the grass really is
now growing well and finished values remain firm.
Mr P Mitchell, Stamford sold Limousin 24 month old steers to £1240 and Saler 14 month old
steers to £1240. Mr HJ Archer, Derby sold Charolais 24 month old steers to £1200 and
Bazadaise 23 month old steers to £1220 and Charolais 23 month old heifers to £1000. Ann
Potts sold Blonde 24 month old heifers to £1100, John Savage sold Limousin 10 month old
steers to £1010, John Perry sold Blue 11 month old heifers to £1080 and Mr JB Anderson,
Kings Lynn sold Simmental 14 month old steers to £920. MANY MORE REQUIRED PLEASE

SPRING LAMBS
An excellent entry of 62 Springers forward for a Saturday, though no real show stoppers,
sold well in line with our Wednesday Sale.
Top price pounds per head went to Mark Crowder who sold Continental cross lambs to £119
and £110.
Messrs D Webb also sold Texel crosses to £111 and Miss CM Wheat took top price pence
per kilo at 274p per kg for a Beltex cross.
Real light weight lambs at 32 kilo sold to £88.
HOGGETS
68 Hoggets forward with 90% of them shooting teeth.
Top price in this section went to Mr D Crawford who sold to £110 for 65 kilos Texel cross,
Graham Hewson sold Hogs from 49 kilos to 61 kilos at £100 to £108 for Texel crosses
EWES AND RAMS - Overall Average £80.00 per Head
325 Cull Ewes and Rams forward today sold to an improved trade for all qualities.
Best Continentals sold to £100 for Curtis Lakey. Jim Chantry sold to £92 for Suffolks.
Paul Baker sold to £94 for Texel crosses.
Generally the best Ewes sold from £85 to £100, Mules sold well to £90 and smaller or lean
feeding type Ewes £52 to £70 with Suffolk Rams selling to £90.
GOATS
A small entry of Goats sold to £70 twice for a Nanny and kid and Billy’s sold to £48.
EWES AND LAMBS - Overall Average £68.70 per Life
Small entry of Ewes and Lambs. CM Wheat sold a Texel shearling with a single lamb at foot

A drastically reduced entry on offer today and quality also reduced with more black and
whites forward and some excellent top end black and whites at that.
Trade today was very similar on the week and definitely more could have been well sold.

to 246.5p - £1629.37. Andrew Clark, Sheffield sold Limousins to 238.5p - £1330.83 with

was as fast as ever and many more could have been well sold.
Top cow today was consigned by Manor Farms who sold Blues to 234.5p - £1887.73 with
Limousins to 197.5p - £1232.40.
Messrs S W & AN Stubbs sold Simmentals to 215.5p - £1217.58.
Messrs Chapel Hill Farms sold Charolais to £1777.51.
Today the better end of the fed suckler cows 170p plus, R grades 150-160p and O+’s
140-150p.
Best black and whites 142-152p with plainer sorts 130-140p.
Not much quality in the overage clean cattle this week.
Topping the section was a Limousin heifer from Arthur Norcross who sold to 213.5p £1426.18.
Charles Smart sold Hereford steers to 201.5p - £1287.59.
Stock bulls were again very well sold with Brian Smith selling Blues to 197.5p - £2063.88,
Messrs Bowes Farms Ltd sold Limousins to 184.5p - £1872.68. Again a terrific result and
many more required

Trade just as fast in the main, although some second qualities would have been slightly
easier.
Top steer this week was consigned by John White, Banbury who sold Limousins to 262.5p £1601.25 with another at 256.5p - £1746.77. David and Louise Todd sold Limousins to
257.5p - £1727.83, Mike Scott sold Limousins to 255.5p - £1379.70, Brian and Josie
Cummings sold Limousins to 254.5p - £1748.42, 253.5p - £1680.71 and 251.5p - £1815.83.
Mike, Jane, Charlie and David Wills (t/a Upper Coton Farms sold Limousins to 253.5p £1419.60 with others at 253.5p - £1477.91, 252.5p - £1507.43 and Blues to 250.5p £1420.34.

A reduced entry of heifers forward today, however some marvellous top end qualities.
Trade was again exceptionally sharp, however 2nd and 3rd qualities easier on the week.
Top heifers today were consigned by Upper Coton Farms who sold Blondes to 272.5p £1441.53 with Limousins to 264.5p - £1301.34, 255.5p - £1177.86. Andrew Mason sold
Limousins to 265.5p - £1338.12, Nick Sansom sold Limousins to 263.5p - £1338.58, Graham
Mason (who is incidentally is ‘65’ today – Many Happy Returns) sold Blues to 259.5p £1390.92.
Top grossing heifer today was sold by Messrs S & E Dow who sold Charolais to £1634.26.

A totally inadequate entry of finished pigs this week as pigs booked in never turned up.
Those that did show would have had the trade of the century as new buyers were present
this week.

Gill Hirst sold Gilts to 176p per kg or to £144.96 and Boars to 140p per kg or £120.40.
