Job Description Job Title: Archaeologist/Processor/Driver Department: MOLA – Development Services Grade: MOLA Grade 3 Salary: £18,135 - £19,800 per annum (37 hour week) If appointed towards the bottom of the range increments are currently payable after 3 and 6 months subject to positive performance reviews. Hours: Up to 37 hrs Monday to Friday standard; 40, 45 or 48 hrs by exception per week. Weekend days by exception. (Please see working conditions) Location: MOLA offices and projects across London and the southeast Duration: Fixed term (six months) with option for extension or transfer to the field team as an archaeologist dependant on project activity Responsible to: Senior Finds Processor (Line Manager); Project Officer / Senior Archaeologists on site and any other member of the management team as appropriate Overall Job Purpose: To support the field team by managing, maintaining and delivering materials and equipment to archaeological sites. To excavate and record archaeological features and process archaeological material to MOLA standards Key Result areas: Logistics/Processing To work in accordance with the requirements of the MOLA Health and Safety Policy To deliver and collect tools and equipment from all sites. To monitor and ensure the MOLA van is maintained and in line with current legislations To process handle and package finds, human remains and environmental material to MOLA standards. To develop an understanding of the discard and collection policies at MOLA. To develop team-working skills and contribute to and support positive morale within teams. To work safely on site in accordance with MOLA archaeologist standards. To be professional and polite at all times and to uphold the standards, values and reputation of MOLA in all team, client and public interactions. Fieldwork Working Conditions To excavate deposits on field projects including watching briefs, field evaluations and excavations in accordance with MOLA procedures and standards To make written and drawn records of archaeological deposits including descriptions of contexts, masonry and timber structures and graves, plans and section drawings in accordance with MOLA procedures and standards To assist in the preparation of site archives and reports, including digitising, and to prepare site archives and reports for watching briefs and evaluations Other duties appropriate to the post as may be required Physically demanding work on sites. Some keyboard/VDU work will be required Some work away from base (for which, overnight accommodation will be provided) On nominated projects (exceptions) you may be required to work up to 48 hours per week over 6 days. This will be made up of the standard 37 hours per week plus additional hours at appropriate equivalent or higher pay rates.
