Job Description Job Title: Senior Archaeological Archivist Department: MOLA Northampton Grade: MOLA Pay Band 2.3 Salary: £21,827 to 25,017 per annum Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, Flexibility of working hours up to 40 hours will be required Location: Bolton House, Northampton Duration: Permanent Responsible to: Finds and Archive Manager Responsible for: Project Assistants and Volunteers as required Overall Job Purpose: To co-ordinate and undertake the archiving and deposition of documentary paper and digital records, together with the material archive for all MOLA Northampton projects. All archives should follow relevant national and county standards. Key Result areas: To maintain and develop archiving procedures in response to changes in museum requirements. To be responsible for the day-to-day preparation of the archaeological archives for deposition with the relevant museum or other repositories, and digital archiving. To work with members of the Archive Team in London to develop standards in archiving. Specific Tasks: Archiving Projects To work in accordance with the archiving standards of receiving museums. As MOLA works across the UK this involves over twenty organisations with various schemes for accession numbers, guidelines and fees. To liaise and co-operate with the counties curators throughout this process and in advance of final deposition. To campaign within MOLA to ensure that the process of archiving is taken into consideration at the beginning and during the project as well as in post – excavation. To gather site records and check validity and completeness. To feedback on records management performance to supplying teams. To design a procedure for the archiving and documenting of digital photographic records and to implement this procedure for current, future and past archives. To prepare the digital archive for deposition with museums and ADS. In addition, to microfiche security copy as required by several counties. To liaise with clients and landowners to facilitate the signing transfer of title for the finds archive. To oversee enquiries, loans and legal issues. To supervise Project Assistants, work-experience students (Connexions) / volunteers during postexcavation tasks. To liaise with Environmental Supervisor in order to integrate eco-facts into the finds archive. To update databases and other records to allow the monitoring of archives process from fieldwork to deposition. Process development To assist the Finds and Archive Officer in developing and streamlining archiving procedures in line with current best practice and requirements.
