Consequences: 1. Verbal Warning 2. 30 minute afterschool detention 3. Office Referral Make-Up Work Policy: The student is responsible for making up any work missed in the classroom. Being absent from class does not excuse work done in class. There will be a folder in the back of the classroom labeled by class period. Your makeup work will be in your class period folder. You will have one week from the day the work was assigned to complete missing work. If work was to be turned in on the day you were absent then it is do the day you are back in class. Late Work Policy: All work assigned in class is expected to be completed in class. If work is not completed in class, the student has one week from the due date to turn in the assignment. If the assignment is not turned in after a week, the grade will result in a ‘zero’. Tardy Policy: Students tardy more than three times to class will receive a discipline office referral. Testing/Retake Policy: If a grade of 70 or below is made on a major assessment, students will be given one opportunity to retake the assessment after they have tutoring/conferencing with Mr. Melton. No more than a grade of 77 can be earned. If a student earns any grade below a 60 on a test, the parent will be contacted via email to let them inform them of the student’s grade. Test Retake Days: I will schedule two retake days per test after school to allow students to retake their test. It is the student’s responsibility to come to these retake days. If a student cannot come to one of the two retake days, then they will need to schedule another time with Mr. Melton. Internet Test Portions: All tests are expected to be completed in class on test day, unless permission is given. On certain tests, there will be online portions to the test. If a student does not finish their online portion, they may not continue on it at home. This would constitute as cheating since they are using more time than their classmates. See cheating policy for ramifications. Cheating/Plagiarism: Cheating will result in a ‘zero’ on the assignment and administration will be notified. Parents will also be made aware of the situation. Restroom Policy: The student has 3 restroom passes per nine weeks to be used as needed. After three passes are used, the student will be required to stay for a 15 minute detention after school to make up the time missed in class. Refusal to stay after school for detention will result in a referral. Cell Phone/Technology Policy: Cell phones are not to be out in class. They are to be in your book bag or pocket. If students are caught on their phones, the phone will be taken up until the end of class. If a phone is caught out a second time, it will be handed over to administration. Occasionally I will allow students to listen to music on their iPads when they are working individually; however, this is a privilege. IPads/Computers are not to be used to watch movies or play games. Doing so will result in a warning for the first offence and a referral for the second offence. Headphones are not to be worn in the classroom while lessons are being taught. This is very disrespectful. Headphones will be allowed when music is allowed. Grading Minor Assignments (Homework, Daily Assignments) 40% Major Assignments (Tests, Projects) 60% Grades in the gradebook as a ‘1’ can still be made up, grades in as a ‘0’ cannot be made up and are the final grade. Grading Scale 100-93 A 92-85 B 84-77 C 76-70 D 69 and below F My Educational Philosophy: My personal philosophy of discipline is that I feel it is absolutely necessary to lead by example. As an educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to do what is necessary to create an inviting atmosphere, provide engaging instruction and activities, meet the needs of all the students, and most importantly, maintain a professional demeanor and be viewed as a positive influence to those around me. Computer skills will be necessary for future success, regardless of the choice of profession after high school. It is important for each student to take responsibility for their learning by setting goals, asking questions, and participating in the classroom. My primary objective is to provide the best learning environment for students, and if we work together, we can accomplish astonishing things.
