6 Day Rule does NOT apply
STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts
60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing
All WEDNESDAY MARKETS are RED/SLAUGHTER ONLY MARKETS
STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st
January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

Or why not complete the form online. Again James has all of the software to be able to do
this, please contact him to discuss, he will need you PI and PIN Number. Applications will be
submitted directly on line and giving the RPA time should allow them to get things right and
early payments!

Young Bulls - 191 averaged 207.64p
A slightly reduced entry of bulls on offer today, with several excellent quality suckler bred
bulls forward.
Today we saw many good bred bulls that lacked finish, also many black and whites forward
and several of them were very plain.
Trade today was again exceptionally fast and many more could have been very well sold.
Top bull today was consigned by Robert Hutchinson who sold Limousins to 253.5p £1526.07 with others at 248.5p - £1441.30, 246.5p (twice), £1496.26 and £1468.14 and
245.5p - £1524.56.
Mike, Jane, Charlie and David Wills (t/a Upper Coton Farms) sold Limousins to 250.5p £1460.42 with another at 246.5p - £1395.19. David Duffin, Melton Mowbray sold Limousins
to 246.5p - £1543.09. John Farrow sold Charolais to 248.5p - £1684.83. John Perry, Kings

entry.
Trade today was again faster on the week.
Top cow today was consigned by Nigel Johnson, Lutterworth who sold Limousins to 232.5p £1555.43, Fred Harrison sold Limousins to 200.5p - £1160.90, James Bourne sold Limousins
to 199.5p - £1183.04.
Top grossing cows this week were consigned by Ralph Needham Farms Ltd who sold
Charolais to £1724.41 and £1652.91.
Today best suckler cows very thin on the ground and sold from 198p. R grade meat cows
170-184p and O+’s 156-166p.
Best Dairy cows 152-160p for black and whites and 155-164p for Montbeliardes. Plainer
blacks and whites 130-140p and real plain sorts 118-128p and horror 100-110p.
OTMS clean cattle were exceptionally well sold although steers very thin on the ground.
Heifers from Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold to 232.5p - £1657.73 and Charolais to 213.5p
- £1641.82.
Overage Bulls from Alwyn Coles sold to 200.5p - £1295.23 for a Limousin.
Bodham Farms sold Simmentals to £1908.20, Nigel Johnson sold Limousins to 178.5p £1724.31.

A slight increase in numbers, but quality very disappointing, again no best pigs about.
The pigs forward today would be in the 2nd/3rd quality bracket carrying too much fat or
native bred, selling to 100p per kg or to £94.00, though many sold from 70 to 80p per kg.
Also Cull sows today all being native bred and lean sold to 56p per kg.

I have been at Newark now for 4 months and the sheep section really seems to have taken
off, yes people had their doubts about being a ‘Red Market’ but look at our trade for this
time and I think you have no fears for selling on Wednesday, I would like to thank the
Vendors of all sheep sold so far this year, keep them coming!!
Good to see an increase in numbers of Spring Lambs today and what a trade! Top price p/kg
went to R Battersby for a super pen of Texels 39½kgs 291p/kg, and £s per head to first time

countrywide, selling from £15.50 to £118 averaging £81.12. Today we would have seen
several runs of leaner ewes but all catered for. First time Vendors in Newark I & P Griffith
Northamptonshire topped today with Texels their load of 28 averaged £108.99,
