Regional Data - What to focus on?
In this session we will explore current trends in regional transplantation and donation, identify
successful practices and discuss ways to focus regional efforts to increase success
DCD – Where we have come from, where we are, and where we are going?
In this session will review the history of DCD, look at current regional data on DCD donation and
transplantation, discuss best practices in DCD, and identify those in our area who are
successfully procuring and transplanting these organs.
Creative ways to Solve Organ Wastage
In this session we will discuss how the OPTN and the professional societies are collaborate on an
approach to remove disincentives for marginal organ procurement and placement
DSA success stories
LifeSource and Wisconsin Donor Network share an exciting practice that has improved donation
or transplantation in their service area.
From referral to transplant – From requestor to procurement
In this session will hear from over 12 individuals who touch a candidate and donor to make the
miracle of donation and transplantation happen. Understanding what we each do is key to
creating successful communication strategies.

OPO and Transplant Center Breakouts
In these afternoon session, there will be an interactive discussion on the topics below. A
networking lunch will served during this session 12:30 – 1:15pm. This is a unique opportunity to
mingle and exchange ideas with you regional partners.

 Challenging Case Studies: hear and discuss challenging placement cases and how we can
learn from each other struggles and successes
 DCD Lung: Successful Evaluation Strategies
 Donor Management Goals: hear from each OPO how they use DMGs to drive practice
improvement and increase organ
 Improvement: hear how GOH uses metrics to drive improvement
Transplant Center Breakout
 Caring for the high MELD patient: hear from the clinical perspective how the care and
management of the high MELD patient drives outcome and a quality improvement project
aimed at improving MELD reporting
 KPD, the ins and outs: hear how two programs managed their KPD programs to ensure
maximizing the greatest opportunity to increase transplants in the US
 Quality: learn and discuss strategies for embedding quality in your culture

Case Studies – Allocation and Transplantation from all angles
We will repeat our highly rated spring session and take this opportunity to walk through two
new allocations scenarios. This is an opportunity to discover future improvements to regional

Open Talk
During the day attendees will be asked to write down “taboo” questions for their OPO and
transplant center partners. We will take this time to explore the questions and provide a rare
opportunity to learn the “why?” behind many frustrations
Jeopardy – Policy and Practice 101
In this session we will have a little fun exploring OPTN/UNOS and CMS policies.
