Take Part in an exciting Photography Exhibition with Contact a Family

Contact a Family is seeking to raise awareness of disability and family life and to promote our work so we can continue supporting families with disabled children across Scotland. We are excited to announce that we are organising a photo exhibition called ‘My Family’ which will be shown at the Dovecot Gallery in Edinburgh in March

2016.

We are engaging with our current supporters and raising awareness with potential new supporters on the fun and the challenges which families with disabled children experience.

We would love to exhibit your ‘family photo’ and for you to tell your family’s story behind the picture.

The exhibition will display photographs of families taken by YOU and Rebecca Lee, an award winning photographer from Scotland.

Please see the brief below for further details.

MY-FAMILY-EXHIBITION

The Brief

Contact a Family would like you to take photographs of your family for an exhibition we will be holding in March

2016. The theme is ‘My Family’ and we would like you to send us up to three photographs highlighting special moments from your life.

The brief is open to your interpretation of capturing a moment in your family’s’ time together; at home, on a day trip, on holiday, out and about, at the park or in the garden, visiting friends - anywhere you and family spend time together, to depict a family moment.

We will be displaying a selection of photographs from those we receive from families chosen for the ‘My Family’ exhibition. These will be displayed alongside photographs taken by the professional photographer Rebecca Lee.

Rebecca was a Scottish international disabled swimmer and since then has developed her photography skills to become an award winning freelance photographer. Rebecca will photograph two families capturing a day in their life, in two different locations in Scotland.

If your family photo is selected for the exhibition it will be curated for the event by the experienced freelance photographer Ian Biggar and you will receive a selected framed photo to keep.

Aspects to Consider

Subjects – child on their own, child with siblings/parents/grandparents/carers/relatives/pets

Activity – what the subject(s) will be engaging in

Angle – portrait or wider scene

Photograph background/perspective

The story behind the picture - a short piece just outlining what life is like for your disabled child or young person and your family (max 200 words). Please note that content may be edited.

Information for Participants

Deadline for entries: 31 st January 2016

Please send us between 1-3 photographs in digital form attached to an email with your short story.

You can use a good quality camera (if you have a digital SLR use it!) or your mobile phone. High resolution photographs suitable for enlargement/printing and sent to us as a JPEG file would be ideal.

As space is limited a selection of 20 photographs will be chosen for the exhibition by a small panel and these will be framed and featured in the ‘My Family’ exhibition.

Your photographs will remain private and will not appear in public without your consent. When the images have been selected, we will get in touch to ask your permission about using your images for inclusion in the exhibition, brochure, website and other Contact a Family materials.
