GENERAL RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS Research interests: media theory, media education and popular cultural history, specifically: The long history of media and communications thought Pedagogical implications of new media technologies and practices News events and theories of media influence on public opinion Sport and the media, especially representations of football hooliganism Youth cultures and popular music RESEARCH ACTIVITY (LAST 5 YEARS) In addition to my 10 published outputs (see Publications List), I am negotiating a contract to write a book about the reporting and subsequent reconstruction and remediation of landmark news stories, entitled Fifty Major News Events. I am also co-editing a volume that evaluates the works of seminal media and communications theorists.
