The City of Leeds
Leeds is a truly international city. It is twinned with
many cities throughout the world, including our sister
city of Hangzhou in China. Leeds Met has a vibrant
and growing international community with over 4,000
international students from well over 100 countries.
COMMUNICATIONS
Leeds is located at the centre of the UK’s road, rail
and air transportation network. Leeds Bradford
International Airport, situated just 8 miles from Leeds
city centre, has daily flights to all major European
destinations. The airport is also served by a 24 hour
express coach link from the city centre.
Leeds city train station provides a fast rail service to
many UK cities, for example:
London
2 hours 20 minutes
Manchester
1 hour
Newcastle
1 hour 45 minutes
Edinburgh
3 hours 45 minutes
The city is also served well by roads, with the M1
linking Leeds with London, and the M62 connecting
Leeds with Manchester and Hull.
SHOPPING
Described as the ‘Knightsbridge of the North’, Leeds
is one of the largest retail centres in the country.
The city centre boasts over 1,000 shops in the unique
mix of stylish pedestrianised high streets, state-of-theart shopping centres, historic buildings and Edwardian
markets. The beautifully restored Victoria Quarter is
home to stylish individual shops and boutiques and is
covered by the largest stained glass roof in Europe.
The Quarter also houses the £5 million Harvey Nichols,
the first Harvey Nichols store outside London.
THEATRES
Possibly the flagship of the Leeds arts scene is the
West Yorkshire Playhouse. Established in 1990, it
regularly features nationally acclaimed productions
and provides a showcase for both new writing talent
and productions of the classics. The City Varieties
Music Hall is a well known venue for live comedy and
music. The famous Opera North and Northern Ballet
Theatre are based at Leeds Grand Theatre, which
also features performances as diverse as classical
dramas to pantomimes.
GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS
The cultural, historical and architectural heritage of
Leeds is well represented by a host of museums,
stately homes and art galleries. From the national

being able to set her own

contrast to the constraints of

The Masters in Management is aimed
at the large number of graduates with a

wish to take up a career in business.
Arts, humanities and science graduates

competing against well-qualified
business graduates who are of
immediate value to their employers.
Furthermore, many business graduates
have a second qualification, whether
that is from an appropriate professional
body or a Masters.
The MSc in Management offers you the
opportunity to remedy the situation in
both these areas, providing a high level
business qualification with the added
advantage that you do not have to have
work experience to enter and successfully

If the degree or diploma is not UK equivalent,
we may take work experience into account in

“I chose this course because I
do not have any background in
business, and I appreciate the
broadness of the course. It has
the scope to give me a wide
understanding and knowledge
of the business world. The
course takes a lot of time and

specialise in a chosen business field at
a higher level.
IPoS schemes allow you to negotiate
your own programme of study, combining
modules from related courses with
independent study, and credit for prior
learning and work experience. You may
also integrate work-based learning into
your IPoS via a negotiated learning contract.
COURSE CONTENT
You will be able to choose from the
whole range of modules delivered
across Leeds Business School at
Masters Level to construct a
personalised masters qualification in
business. A Dissertation or workrelated project must also be
undertaken. You will be supported in
completing your Dissertation via a
Research Methods module and a
personal tutor. Other than this, there
are no stipulated core modules.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants need to show evidence of their
command of English with an IELTS 6.0,
TOEFL (Paper-based:565, Computer-based:
224, Internet-based IBT: 85) Cambridge
Certificate of Proficiency qualification or
equivalent. If English was the medium of
tuition on a previous degree then this may be
considered. Applicants are normally expected
to have a UK first degree or equivalent,
however a Higher Education Diploma and work
experience may in some cases be sufficient.
If the degree or diploma is not UK equivalent,
we may take work experience into account in
considering eligibility for the course.
MYEC
(MAKING YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNT)
Many people begin their IPoS
by completing the Make Your
Experience Count course (MYEC)
which consists of a short course
of five three-hour sessions.
The MYEC course helps you to
demonstrate learning from prior
experience. Credit can be
awarded on the basis of a
portfolio, which each student
prepares through the MYEC
course.
The MYEC is designed
specifically for mature students
who wish to relate their
programme of study to their
previous qualifications and
experience. You may then be
able to claim exemptions from
parts of the course.

The MA International Trade &
Finance is delivered both in Leeds
and in Hangzhou, China,
in partnership with the Zhejiang
University of Technology. Yun
Chen, from Shen Zhen in China,
was enthusiastic about her time at
Leeds Met. She says: "I had heard
of Leeds as a modern city and also
as a major financial centre, so that
appealed to me".
Yun added: "I've found Leeds Met
to be a welcoming place to study.
My dissertation supervisor, Dr
Junjie Wu is also Chinese which
has helped to ease the transition
to living in the UK. Leeds as a city
has been a relatively inexpensive
place to live as well."
Yun intends to stay in Leeds and
start her own business because,
as she says: "Links between the
UK and China can only get closer
in the next few years and I think
there are business opportunities
