CULL COWS AND OTMS – 103 averaged 140.28p or £987.26
Just over the 100 today and trade definitely sharper on the week with the average levelling
just over 140p per kilo and again against deadweight returns, cows today would look
exceptionally well sold.
Top vendor today was the late Robin Smith, Melton Mowbray with Robin sadly passed, Jill,
Marcus and Edwina are very much in charge and in farming life certainly goes on.
It was no surprise to me the huge turnout at Robins funeral last Wednesday and talking to
the family I know it gave them all great comfort the attendance of many from far and wide
and on their behalf I thank you very much.
Bazadaise cows from the Smiths sold to 166.5p - £1275.39 and 163.5p - £1383.21. Messrs
Grange Farms Ltd sold Limousins to 164.5p - £1069.25, Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold
Limousins to 162.5p - £1287.00, Richard and Judy Fountaine sold South Devons to 161.5p £1300.08.
Roger Hazard and Sons sold French imported cows to £1407.93 and £1283.31.
Today some very well fed suckler cows which sold from 150 pence for –U grade or better
cows, R grades sold from 142-148p and –O’s 130-140p.
Plainer cows sold from 118-128p.
Better fed Holsteins sold from 126-136p with plainer sorts 115-125p and horrors less at
100-110p.
OTM clean cattle were also sharper with Richard and Judy Fountaine selling Limousin steers
to 189.5p - £1049.83.
Messrs Mellor and Wilshaw sold Limousin heifers to 187.5p -£1042.50 and 186.5p –
£1091.03.
Messrs Pennell Bros sold Blue Stock bulls to £1249.85 and Messrs RG Parkinson & Son
selling Lincoln Reds to £1211.60.
A very good result indeed and a country mile in front of deadweight returns.
Any cattle with CTS Forms MUST have a green passport attached if you have
lost this please apply to BCMS for a replacement BEFORE you bring the cattle
