The minimum enrolment is 3 courses and the maximum is 5. 6 units of credit = 3-4 credits in the US system 6 units of credit = 7.5 ECTS in the European system Intensive Language Classes Available: No Updated: February 2014 2 Student Information Information about health insurance: The Department of Immigration and Border Protection requires that international students on student visas have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of their studies. Medical care in Australia can be expensive. The OSHC will pay benefits towards any medical care you may require when studying in Australia. Applying for a visa If studying a CRICOS registered course in Australia, you will require a student visa. To apply for your student visa, you must accept your Offer of Admission to obtain a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). A COE is required for your application for a student visa. Visa Conditions You will need to comply with your student visa conditions to ensure your visa remains valid. This includes attending classes and completing assignments, advising CQ University of any change in your Australian address and maintaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). More information on visa conditions can be found on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website. Can students work while on exchange to University of Central Queensland: International students studying in Australia on a student visa are able to work part-time and do not need to apply for a work visa. From 26 March 2012, all new and existing student visa holders are permitted to work up to 40 hours per fortnight during any fortnight while their program is in session. Higher Degree by Research students will not be limited in the number of hours that they can work once their program has commenced. Students often obtain employment in service and hospitality industries. Our oncampus support staff will be able to provide you with information on casual and parttime employment opportunities available. The opportunity to work part-time allows you to earn some spending money and meet more people, however you should not rely on these earnings to pay tuition fees or other living expenses. Homestay Homestay is a great way to learn about Australian life and culture as you will be placed with a local host family. The cost of homestay is approximately $750 per month, including meals, and there is a placement fee of AU$180. House or apartment rental (individual or shared) CQ University Rockhampton provides a free accommodation placement service. Our staff will find a suitable accommodation close to campus before you arrive in Australia. On our other campuses, you will be referred to external accommodation providers. Cost will vary according to the facilities provided. It could range from AU$480 – AU$700 per month per person, excluding food, electricity, gas and phone. The warmer temperatures offer an opportunity to dress casually in cool light clothing. T-shirts and shorts are a popular choice among our students. It is recommended that you wear a hat and long sleeves for protection from sunburn during the summer months. Winter temperatures are usually very mild.
