Student Information
Information about health insurance:
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection requires that international
students on student visas have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the
duration of their studies. Medical care in Australia can be expensive. The OSHC will
pay benefits towards any medical care you may require when studying in Australia.
Medibank Private is the preferred OSHC provider for CQ University. Visit the
Medibank Private website to get a quick quote.
Applying for a visa
If studying a CRICOS registered course in Australia, you will require a student visa. To
apply for your student visa, you must accept your Offer of Admission to obtain a
Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). A COE is required for your application for a student
visa.
Visa Conditions
You will need to comply with your student visa conditions to ensure your visa remains
valid. This includes attending classes and completing assignments, advising CQ
University of any change in your Australian address and maintaining Overseas
Student Health Cover (OSHC). More information on visa conditions can be found on
the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.
Can students work while on exchange to University of Central Queensland:
International students studying in Australia on a student visa are able to work part-time
and do not need to apply for a work visa. From 26 March 2012, all new and existing
student visa holders are permitted to work up to 40 hours per fortnight during any
fortnight while their program is in session.
Higher Degree by Research students will not be limited in the number of hours that
they can work once their program has commenced.
Students often obtain employment in service and hospitality industries. Our oncampus support staff will be able to provide you with information on casual and parttime employment opportunities available. The opportunity to work part-time allows you
to earn some spending money and meet more people, however you should not rely on
these earnings to pay tuition fees or other living expenses.

dress casually in cool light clothing. T-shirts and shorts are a popular choice among
our students. It is recommended that you wear a hat and long sleeves for protection
from sunburn during the summer months. Winter temperatures are usually very mild.
