Congratulations on accepting your offer with CQUniversity! You now should be ready to start enrolling in your courses. You should have visited the Enrolment Made Easy website provided on your offer letter (http://cqu.edu.au/enrolment), and be familiar with its content and now be looking at your program structure and thinking about the courses you’d like to enrol in for your commencing term. Below are a few things you need to read, visit and review that will help you with your enrolment choice and also avenues if you need assistance. Program Structure (Student Handbook) What is a program? Your overall degree, for example Bachelor of Business is the program you are enrolled in. What is a course? A course (often called a subject or unit) is the individual components which make up your program, for example ACCT11059 Using Accounting for Decision Making. Each program has a program structure which you can find within the Student Handbook http://handbook.cqu.edu.au To understand what courses your program comprises, you will have to visit the Student Handbook and find your program of study. Within each program entry you will find information on: • • At a Glance (brief overview of the program) Aims – Structure • • Courses (this will provide you with your entire program structure) More Details (important information relating specifically to your program) The Courses tab is the one you will need to visit. It will provide you with information on: • • Your entire program structure Course availability (term and campus) – you must click on a course link to get to this information Within each course availability page you will find information on: • • • Which Faculty the course belongs to How many credit points it is worth Requisites (see below for explanation) • • • Student Contribution Band (relates to fees) Term and campus availability Course Profile What is a requisite? A question that is asked regularly is what are prerequisites and co-requisites. As per the CQUniversity glossary (http://glossary.cqu.edu.au): Prerequisite (prereq): A course in which a passing grade is required before enrolment in a subsequent course is permitted. For example: MRKT19031 has a prereq of MRKT11029. This means you must obtain a passing grade for MRKT11029 before enrolling in MRKT19031. Co-requisite: A course that must be studied concurrently with another specified course unless a passing grade for the corequisite course has already been obtained. For example: HRMT19012 has a corequisite of HRMT11011. This means you must study HRMT11011 at the same time (or before) when enrolling in HRMT19012. 3 First Year Program Planners We have created first year program planners as a guide to what to enrol in for your first year. These can be found on the Enrolment Made Easy website http://cqu.edu.au/enrolment If you need program advice or direction in choosing your courses you can contact your Program Advisor via http://cqu.edu.au/programadvisor. Course Credit (Credit Transfer) Course Credit (also known as Credit Transfer or Exemptions) may be granted to students who are able to demonstrate appropriate prior learning or experience*. * Please note that not all programs allow prior experience as a basis for credit. Who can apply for Course Credit? If you have undertaken study in the last ten years, you may be eligible to credit towards your CQUniversity degree. Please ensure you consult the Course Credit Policy, Principles and Procedures for further information prior to submitting your application. How to apply for Course Credit? Depending on what previous qualifications you have will depend on the application process. For full details please visit http://cqu.edu.au/credittransfer. It is your responsibility as a student applying for credit to submit the documentation with your Application for Credit Transfer. NOTE: If you are an Engineering, Nursing and Building Environment student, you must download the correct Credit Transfer Kits from http://cqu.edu.au/credittransfer. This kit must be completed in conjunction with the Credit Transfer Application form. Application timelines? Students are advised to make application for credit well in advance of term commencement. This is to allow time for assessment and considered decisions in relation to course enrolment. Applications received after Census Date will not be considered until the following term. Once your application has been received and assessed, the University will notify you of the outcome via your student email account. It is your responsibility to ensure you are not enrolled in any course, after the last day to drop (Census date) as stated in the current Principal Dates (http://handbook.cqu.edu.au/Handbook/dates.jsp) for which you have also been granted exemption via the Credit Transfer process. Full details of the Course Credit process and policies can be found at http://cqu.edu.au/credittransfer. Orientation Orientation is fun and informative and provides an excellent opportunity to meet academic and support staff, student mentors and other students. Orientation sessions are designed to introduce you to academic life, support services and the administrative systems essential for you to manage your study program.
