CMU Writing Center Classroom Presentations ANY WRITING WRITING CENTER ORIENTATION This 10 to 15 minute presentation informs students about a free resource available on our campus: The CMU Writing Center. The presentation gives students a glimpse of the philosophy of the Center, what it has to offer them, and why they should use this resource, along with information about appointments and the hours and locations of the Centers. We will come to your classroom at a time that works best for you. ANY LEVEL WRITING MODEL SESSION During this presentation, one or two consultants model giving peer feedback on a sample paper written for an assignment from your class, addressing global and surface level writing concerns specific to that assignment. This session engages students with writing, gives pointers for writing your assignment, and models the type of feedback students can expect at the Center. At least one week before this presentation, we will need a copy of your paper assignment and, if possible, a sample paper. If you do not have a sample, the Writing Center can create one. Dr. Lawson will work with you to make sure that the model fits your assignment and expectations. Allow approximately 30 minutes for this session. ANY DISCIPLINE PEER EDITING WORKSHOP Called a “Fishbowl,” this workshop explains and demonstrates the benefits of peer review. Drawing on questions and input from your students, consultants discuss writing issues and demonstrate a peer revision session by critiquing a paper from your class or by using one of our samples. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for this session. PRESENTATION REQUEST FORM Please email the following information to the CMU Writing Center, writcent@cmich.edu.
