St Albans Judo club is an accredited British Heart Foundation Heart Start trainer. This is very important to the effective function of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at STAGS because all our first aid training is provided via the Judo Club. In 2011, many (68) students on the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze scheme were trained and qualified in first aid at the Judo Club. It is an effective local organisation, well run, and professional in providing first rate, high quality training. In the 2012 D of E season the Judo club have agreed to train between 120 and 140 Bronze and Silver participants on the award in first aid. Not only does the Judo Club provide this training but also allows young people doing the D of E award to fulfil the requirements for the skills and physical parts of the award. Loss of the Judo Club would cause considerable difficulty in providing the D of E programme at Stags. In general, closure of the Judo Club would detract from the provision for young people in the area. Dr KL STAGS Duke of Edinburgh Award Coordinator
