PROJECTS

Optimization of media components by Response Surface Methodology for the maximum
production of Retinal (Vitamin A) from Fusarium moniliforme strain using soft wares like Design
Expert 5.0 and Minitab 15. Nov 07 - Jun 08
(Project funded and also selected for paper presentation by KSCST-Karnataka State Council of Science
& Technology, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Project group was given an
opportunity to complete the project in R & D and also Vitamins and Fine Chemical Division, Nicholas
Piramal India Limited, Mumbai, India. Jan 07- Mar 07)
Shake flask studies, sonication and Extraction of Retinoids, analyzing it through TLC, HPLC,
quantifying the retinal obtained by UV spectrophotometric methods, screening and Optimization of
Media components using Response Surface Methodology.

Fractionation, purification and the sequence determination of the rich source of peptides present
in the venom of the snake Naja melanoleuca Jan 10 - Aug 10
1. Fractionation of the venom into several components by Size Exclusion Chromatography. 2.
Separated of the fractions further according to their charge using Ion Exchange Chromatography.
1. Further analysis of the venom fractions was done using analytical HPLC.
2. The purification was further done by preparative HPLC.
3. The m/z ratio was determined by using Mass Spectrometry and Tandem MS techniques (MSMS).
The extracts of this snake N. melanoleuca are supposed to contain therapeutic agents against the
deadly disease ‘cancer'.
