430 – CATTLE SOLD:
Comprising 24 Feeding Cows, 52 Cows and Calves, 109 Rearing and Reared Calves, 267
Store Cattle
FEEDING COWS – 24
A drastically reduced entry on offer compared to the last sale and quality very thin on the
ground.
Trade very favourable with finished returns and more could have been well sold.
BREEDING CATTLE – 52
A decent entry of cows and calves on offer today with mostly older, leaner cows forward.
Trade typical of the time of year and units would have looked decent value for money.
Nice quality Limousin Cross Friesian 61 month old cows in calf to Limousin from Messrs S
Pearson and Son, Dronfield sold to £1160. Ian Spendlove, Belper sold Simmental Cows
69 month old with 3 month old Aberdeen Angus Steer calves to £1150.
STORE CATTLE – 267
A very decent entry on offer although first quality sorts very thin on the ground with plenty
of cattle showing signs of the cold and wet weather.
Trade definitely easier although strong quality sorts were still very well sold.
The Exors of MN Wrathall, Northampton sold Simmental 25 month old Steers to £1260 with
Charolais the same age at £1210 with 23 month old Blondes to £1110 and 18 month old
Limousins £1110.00.

Store Lambs
A real mix of store lambs today, the best to £58 for Charollais, middle of the road lambs £40
to £45 and the long keep lambs £25 to £30. The story up and down the country is that the
store lambs are less, have the feeding men bought what they want? An odd older Suffolk
Ram sold to keep made £110.
Cull Ewes
The most ewes that we have seen for a while, met an easier trade as experienced up and
down the country.
The thick ewes would be a good trade whilst the leaner ewes were harder to place.

Again woefully short of lambs today, but what a trade especially for those with meat and
weight, those half promised loads that never turned up would be disappointed that they
did. With Warwick Gill having cashed his cheque and sunning himself in Australia, time to
wheel out some old familiar faces to Newark to keep the numbers there, nice to see them
back selling with us and not put off by a Red Market, like I’ve always said………. Meat will
pay, whatever the day!
