BOARD MEMBER PROFILES
PAUL HAMRA, CHAIR
Paul Hamra trained as a journalist, and worked in politics, before building a national public relations
consultancy in Australia specialising in corporate communications.
After selling the consultancy to Young and Rubicam in 2002, Paul established Solstice Media, publishing The
Independent Weekly newspaper and a number of industry publications.
Solstice Media is now pioneering the migration from print to digital with its own
publication, www.indaily.com.au, and for other publishers.
Paul spent six years as deputy chair of the national film body - The Australian Film Commission, was a trustee
of the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation, is on the Adelaide University Media Advisory Board and The SA
Press Club committee.
ELIZABETH RAUPACH, OAM
Elizabeth lives in McLaren Vale and organises arts events at the Coriole Vineyards. She has worked for many
years in arts training. She was Executive Director of the Helpmann Academy, an organisation that supports the
activities of the tertiary visual and performing arts schools of SA.
Elizabeth has served on a number of arts education boards and on numerous arts boards - currently she chairs
the State Opera of SA and is Deputy Chair of the Jam Factory.
In 2008 Elizabeth was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to arts education, administration
and training.
NORM DOOLE
Norm Doole was born and educated in Canada. Most of his career has been spent in banking and finance having
worked in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. Currently Norm is in the wine
industry as director of Dowie Doole Wine, Boars Rock Winery and Chapel Hill Wines. He is also Chairman of
the Willunga Basin Water Commission and a member of the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board.
ROS MILLER
Ros Miller has a BA Honours from Qld University, a postgraduate Degree in Librarianship from Adelaide
University and a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied Design. She has been an exhibiting artist for 20 years.
Ros established Red Poles in mid 2005 with a restaurant, art gallery and B&B and facilities for teaching a wide
variety of workshops. Red Poles has won many awards both in hospitality and the arts and in 2009 Ros was
awarded for her outstanding contributions to tourism by Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism.
Ros is Chair of Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism Board and a member of the Food and Wine Sub-Committee of FPT.
Ros established the Fleurieu Peninsula Art Trail in 2005 and is Chair of the FPT Art Trail Sub-Committee. Ros
is also on the Arts Board of Flinders Medical Centre.
MARC ALLGROVE
Marc joined Chapel Hill as CEO in 2009. He has worked in the Australian wine industry for 15 years with
Hardy Wine Company/Constellation Wines in a number of areas; brand management, international marketing
and finally as General Manager, Principal Brands & International Sales before moving to Chapel Hill Winery.
Marc has a keen interest in contemporary art and this led him to join the Contemporary Collectors, an
organisation of which he is now deputy chair. Contemporary Collectors raises funds to purchase contemporary
works for the Art Gallery of South Australia. In a couple of years Contemporary Collectors will be celebrating
its ten year anniversary and will have raised over $1M to support contemporary art in Australia.
ELIZABETH TASKER
Elizabeth is Managing Director of Halifax Wines and is joint owner of Halifax Vineyard. Previously Elizabeth
was CEO of McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism.
Elizabeth Tasker has been employed in the marketing/advertising industry for most of her working life. She
started her career working with international advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather before taking on more
responsibility with Australia’s then largest agency, George Pattersons, in a senior management role.
As joint managing director of a new Adelaide based agency, Limelight Marketing Communications, Elizabeth
worked closely with many national and international clients over fifteen years. At Limelight, Elizabeth
represented many well known brands as diverse as the South Australian Redbacks, Rundle Mall, numerous wine
brands, Flinders University, the Bali Nusa Dua Resort and the Adelaide Convention Centre.
PETER WALKER
Peter Walker has been an art dealer for over twenty years. His Gallery is based in the Adelaide suburb of
Walkerville and from here he exhibit’s the works of contemporary artitsts that he represents from around
Australia. He also deals in International and Australian paintings and sculpture from antiquity to contemporary.
Peter is a Foundation Board member of the Helpmann Academy and has been involved in the judging of
numerous contemporary art prizes.
DAVID MCKEE
David retired in mid 2011 after a 43 year career in Stockbroking and Finance. He was a Member of the
Australian Stock Exchange, Director of Morgan Stockbroking, Partner of JB Were & Son and spent the last 4
years of his career at Macquarie Private Wealth as an Associate Director.
He has had a strong association with the Arts, serving 7 years on the ASO Board, National Advisory council for
the ACO and 6 years on the Board of the Art Gallery of S.A. among other activities.
He is currently participates on the Art Gallery Finance and Audit Committee and is a member of the Art Gallery
Foundation, Art Gallery Collectors Club and the Contemporary Collectors Group as well as a range of Not for
Profit Organisations.
HUGO MICHELL
Hugo Michell established Hugo Michell Gallery in Beulah Park, South Australia in 2008 and has grown the
gallery to be highly respected within the Australian art scene. He is committed to presenting exciting and
innovative work at the forefront of contemporary art across a range of mediums. The gallery is devoted to
presenting the work of both established and emerging local and national artists.
Hugo Michell Gallery has a client base which includes numerous public institutions and private collectors
locally, nationally and internationally. Prior to this, Hugo was based in Melbourne and worked for Tolarno
Gallery and has been highly involved in the contemporary arts scene for more than 10 years. Over the past few
years Hugo Michell Gallery has collaborated with some of Australia’s top galleries such as Darren Knight
Gallery, Sydney and Tolarno Gallery, Melbourne.
Hugo has also been heavily involved to the Contemporary Collectors association at the Art Gallery of South
Australia since its inception and dedicated to encouraging a greater understanding of contemporary art and to
develop the permanent collection for the Art Gallery of South Australia.
PIP FORRESTER, FOUNDATION CHAIR
Pip having owned and managed food and tourism businesses in the McLaren Vale Region continues to
champion regional food, food and wine tourism, McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula. To this end she
serves on the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board, the Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism Committee,
Willunga Farmers' Market Board and the Adelaide Central Authority Board.
Pip having been a member of the Fleurieu Art Prize Board from its inception in 1996 now continues to support
this event as the Chair of the Art Prize Foundation. She is passionate about the prize and associated festival and
the role it plays in growing the art, food and wine sector on the Fleurieu Peninsula and more broadly in South
Australia.
KAREN PARIS, GENERAL MANAGER
Karen is an independent Arts Manager and Curator with a strong background in financial, project and event
management. She has worked for WorkCover Corporation, Reserve Bank of Australia and the Australian
Sports Commission.
She has curated and managed a range of high level projects including SALA Moving Image Project 2010 and
2011, Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibiiton 2010 and 2011 and Sculpturing Norwood 2008 and her latest
exhibiiton, Objectified, at SASA Gallery in 2012. Karen delivered a national web based program "Play by The
Rules" supported by the Australian Sports Commission and delivered the Fleurieu Art Prize in 2011.
Karen has a First Class Honours Degree in Visual Arts and Associate Diploma in Business Management.
