Job Description: Co-Tutor for 2 cohorts Advanced Diploma in Person-Centred Therapeutic Counselling Introduction The CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) 420 hours, is delivered part time over 2 academic years. The course is co-tutored but you will not both be present at every session. Overall you would need to tutor for a ratio of 2 out 3 sessions for both the Year 1 and Year 2 Diploma groups. This equates to about 23 sessions per group per academic year. Half the sessions delivered are single tutored and half are double tutored. It is the responsibility of the two tutors to decide on a mutually convenient timetable for tuition, which sessions should be double-tutored and the input for sessions. CPCAB require that one tutor is named as the core-tutor and ask for a higher minimum level of experience for this person (see person specification). Both tutors are on the same pay rate and share the responsibilities equally. Course Content and Delivery 1. To work with the co-tutor to offer a systematic, planned scheme of work with clearly defined aims and objectives achievable within an agreed timescale. 2. To work through group process with the co-tutor. 3. To use/devise teaching materials that are appropriate to the subject, targeted at the appropriate level(s) for individual learners. 4. To promote equal opportunities within the classroom through the use of non-discriminatory teaching materials and methods which respect the status of people who traditionally underachieve, are under-represented in the group or adults with learning disabilities. 5. To interview, with the co-tutor, prospective candidates. Monitoring and Evaluation 6. To monitor and assess individual learner’s progress and refer learners to sources of support and other classes within the Centre, as appropriate. 7. To undertake regular course evaluation and identify appropriate action. 8. To complete weekly attendance registers. 9. To follow up the initial absence or withdrawal of learners and advise the relevant Programme Manager of any additional action which needs to be taken. Other 10. To liaise and work with the co-tutor in all aspects of the course. 11. To be responsible for Health & Safety in your work area and give clear fire instructions to learners on your course(s). 12. To liaise with the Programme Manager and other Swarthmore Centre staff, as appropriate. 13. Occasional voluntary and paid attendance at staff meetings. 14. Willingness to undertake training/re-training, as appropriate. 15. Attendance at regular tutor review and verification meetings. To attend CPCAB standardisation when required – usually once every two years. Pay: £21.10p per hour qualified. (under review) Hours: As co-tutor, you will be required to offer contact tuition for up to 140 hours per cohort per academic year. In addition, you will be required to work for approximately 300 hours per academic year in tutor planning, preparation and assessment time paid @ half the tutor rate (this covers both Diploma groups). You would also be required to attend internal verification meetings and to attend standardisation days with CPCAB, both paid @ half the tutor rate. Course Times: Monday Diploma (Year 1) Wednesday Diploma (Year 2): 9.30am-4.30pm for 32 weeks (During Leeds school term times) plus a 2 day weekend residential in 3rd term of Year 1 9.30am – 4.30pm for 36 weeks (During Leeds school term times) Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling: Co-Tutor Person Specification Essential Nationally recognised Advanced Diploma or equivalent in Person-Centred Counselling (please note that training gained using Integrative approaches is not acceptable for this post).
