Sue Nelson
Interim Superintendent
Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Sue Nelson began her career as a teacher in intermediate and middle school settings. After completing
her Master of Arts in Education at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, she became principal at St.
Margaret Mary School. A heightened awareness of professional development accompanied her
transition to administration and led to expanding her licensure to include
principal/supervisor/coordinator/director of instruction.
Sue’s commitment to curriculum and professional development ultimately led her to the position of
Associate Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee,
which she has held for five years preceding her current appointment as Director of the Academics and
Faith Center of Excellence.
An educator respected throughout Wisconsin, Sue dedicates time to many professional affiliations.
She currently serves on the Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools, the UWM
Council for Economics Education, the Milwaukee Art Museum Board of Directors’ Education &
Public Programs Committee, and the St. Clare Center Advisory Board. In addition, Sue also serves as
an adjunct instructor at both Mount Mary College and Cardinal Stritch University.
To honor her distinguished achievements, the Mount Mary College Alumnae Association presented
Sue with the 2008 Madonna Medal for Professional Excellence.
