Year 12 Fine Art Summer Vacation Project Theme: ‘FRAGMENTS’ Objectives: To collect a folder bulging with visual material connected to this theme / To write a critique on connected artists’ work. Process: 1. You need to take a series of photographs, collect images from magazines/ newspapers of objects, people, architecture, events that you think explore the theme of ‘fragments’. Think carefully about this theme and consider how you can interpret it. For instance could you look at fragments in a physical sense i.e. small sections of objects or perhaps an aspect such as fragments of memory or dreams? Could you consider political or social fragmentation? Fragments of past societies? Fragments of architecture? [Word of advice: when taking photographs aim for good detailed shots and not just holiday-type views. You will be working from some of these and need to see your subject matter.] 2. You will also need to visit the Tate Modern. Locate pieces of artwork that you think reflect an aspect of ‘fragments’ in interesting way. You are to write a critique and to focus on the following: Give an over-view of each piece under consideration – how the theme of ‘fragments’ has been interpreted, scale of work, materials used, the ideas and concepts being presented and your reaction to the work. Compare the artists and their work in terms of the theme, media use, ideas and concepts being communicated.
