Operation Kindness, North Texas’ original no-kill Animal Shelter is currently seeking a Director of Operations. More than 4000 animals are assisted by Operation Kindness each year.
The Director of Operations will be responsible for Animal Care services and will oversee four direct reports with over forty total staff members.
Qualified candidates will have at least five years of animal related management experience and a Bachelor’s degree. Working knowledge of and belief in the no-kill philosophy is required, and animal welfare experience is preferred. He or she will also possess proven leadership skills including success in motivating others, building effective teams and establishing and maintaining systems.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Chief Executive Officer
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of is responsible for directing and leading animal related services for Kennel, Medical, Intake and On-site and Off-site adoption services. He/She will lead a team of managers to implement the Organization’s strategic plan. He/She will be responsible to work through managers to establish and maintain systems that ensure that the dogs and cats receive exceptional health and daily care and that customers on property and in the community receive exceptional customer service.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads team of managers to provide exceptional care and customer service by a. Establishing and maintaining systems for animal inventory management and maintaining optimal animal health through medical care and the prevention of the spread of diseases and illness b. Establishing and maintaining systems to ensure that the living areas for the animals are cleaned thoroughly, sanitation is maintained and that the animals receive care that meet or exceeds recommendations outlined in the
Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. c. Establishing and maintaining systems to ensure that guests to Operation
Kindness receive exceptional customer service
Provides Leadership and Mentoring a. Develop capacity among managers to function as a cross-functional team b. Coach managers on leadership principles and how to apply those with subordinates c. Communicates routinely with volunteers and staff about the strategic goals of the organizations and the processes in place to reach those goals
Leads a team of managers to implement the Organization’s strategic plan
Maintains control of budget and expenses within departments and provides accurate trend analysis for expenses

Oversees property and building maintenance
Completes all required reports in a timely manner
Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations and ensures staff and volunteers act in a safe manner
Establishes Effective Community Relationships

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree. Course work, seminars, certificates in animal care and animal care management desirable.
Experience Requirements
Five years animal related management experience; significant experience in animal welfare management.
Proven excellent organizational skills with ability to effectively manage multiple tasks under often-hectic conditions.
Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to communicate vision, challenge others and support the success and growth of subordinates and colleagues.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to initiate and develop strong work relationships with a wide range of people and personalities and serve as a calming influence during times of stress.
Other Requirements
Physical Effort : : Position requires occasional lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighting up to 40 lbs; when animals or materials weigh over 40 lbs, another staff member will assist in the lifting and carrying. Position also requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time; speaking over the telephone and driving one’s car to perform shelter errands.
Working conditions : May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and animal diseases.
