SECTION TWO

Responsible to: Refuse Manager

Responsible for: Refuse / Recycling Loaders

SECTION THREE – Overall purpose of job

To undertake Refuse Collection Services within the Borough.

To undertake Recycling Collection Services on a doorstep recycling scheme including promotional work to introduce and build up the service to raise the

Borough Council

’s recycling rate.

SECTION FOUR – Principal Responsibilities

Refuse Collection

1. To drive and be responsible for a Refuse Collection Freighter, kerbsider and other associated vehicles.

2. To oversee the collection and return wheeled bins from domestic and commercial premises, in accordance with the Councils Service Standards.

3. Transporting and supervising the crew, with lead responsibility for the operation of the service in the allocated round.

4. To dispose of refuse at the specified landfill sites.

5. To report daily to the Refuse and Recycling Manager or chargehand, NOT

OUT lists, any overweight bins and any other relevant information.

Recycling Collection

1. Delivering receptacles and discussing the operation of the scheme with householders.

2. Driving duties including specialised collection cage vehicle, driving kerbside recycling vehicle and operating vehicle.

3. Collecting recyclables in their receptacles from households participating in scheme, sorting into appropriate sections on Collection vehicle and returning empty receptacles to householders.

General

1. When not driving, the driver will assist in the loading of the vehicle.

2. To comply with safe working practices and adhere to the Council’s Safety

Policy according to the issued safe working arrangements.

3. To comply with standing instructions for drivers of Council vehicles.

4. To ensure the best standard of customer relationship between the service and members of the public.

5. To carry out additional duties from time to time as instructed by the Refuse

Manager.
