Water bottles are needed daily. Homework for Y1 & Y2 children Homework will be given out every Friday, to be returned on Monday. Please encourage your child to complete their homework and return it to school on time. If you have any concerns about the homework please come along to see us. Don’t forget to encourage your child to read and return their reading folders on a daily basis (even if they have not finished). PE Days Children must not wear earrings on these days as they will not be able to participate in PE. Children should have a PE Kit in school consisting of shorts, t-shirt (may be bought in school) and gym shoes or indoor trainers. Reception Year One Year Two - Wednesday Monday and Thursday. If this is not possible, please show the dental card or letter confirming the medical appointment to staff in the school office. Please note that on Wednesday morning Mrs Bishop does not work in class – the children will be taught by Mrs Burwood. Spare Clothes and Clothes for the Weather Please remember: A spare change of clothes including underwear and socks. Wellington boots. A waterproof jacket. To label all clothes and bags with your child’s name. The News Time Wall Please help contribute to the News Time Wall by sending in: Photos with a little written information. Items you have made together (cakes, biscuits, pictures, etc). Leaflets from outings. Our topic for this half-term is ‘All about me’. We will keep you up-to-date with what we are doing in Nursery. Please remember to return Talk-Talk bags every Monday to ensure your child can collect a new bag on Wednesdays. RECEPTION The Reception team, (Mrs Jackson, Mrs Scott, Mrs Grassam & Miss Napier), is pleased to report that the children have all settled well into their new classes and routines and we are all looking forward to getting to know each other better. Topics/Theme - Me and My School We are learning about ourselves and our school. This term we will be learning about letters and the sounds they make. Please help by: talking about your child’s day at school. sharing and discussing their reading books, library books, sounds and other homework. Please note that on Friday afternoons Mrs Jackson and Mrs Scott do not work in class – children will be taught by Miss Paterson (class 6) and Mrs Burwood (class 5). Please remember: We have PE every Wednesday. Please label all clothing. No earrings on PE days (studs only at other times provided a disclaimer form has been received in school). Water bottles are needed daily – water only please. Please continue to share any learning that has taken place at home with staff. If you need any more information, then please do not hesitate to ask a member of the team. YEAR ONE This year’s team is Mrs Jones, Mrs McCalvey, Miss Paterson, Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Summers and Mrs Price. Year 1 have made a good start to the school year and are settling into school routines well. This term we will be covering the topic ‘Wet and Wild’. We will be looking at water, animals. We have already begun work on Noah’s Ark and are about to focus on the story, We will also be making our own boats so we would be grateful for any ice cream tubs, for us to use. various plants and ‘The Rainbow Fish’. ready meal tubs etc We are completing a programme called ‘Walkwise’ which teaches the children all about road safety, while walking around the local environment. It is a 6 week programme in which the children complete the walks in small groups. The fire safety officers will be visiting school soon to talk to the children about fire safety. YEAR TWO This year’s team is Mrs Richardson, Miss Kirwan, Mrs Robson (Deputy Head Teacher), Mrs Bernardi, Mrs Young, Mrs Cleminson, Miss Angus and Mrs Edgar. The Year Two Team is available to discuss any queries or concerns you may have. Thank you for your support in settling the children back into the school routine. Our children have begun their new topic ‘Water All Around Us’. We will be visiting Souter Lighthouse on Tuesday 8 October to find out about how lighthouses work before the children design and make their own. If you have any empty ‘Pringles’ tubes please send them in, thank you. Our annual visit to Ewesley Road Church will take place around harvest time. Letters nearer the time. We will be looking at how harvest is celebrated around the world. will be given As part of our multi-cultural curriculum we will be learning about different festivals and celebrations from a variety of cultures. Children have all been given new reading folders. Please ensure children have these in school with them each day. Please find time to listen to your child read and ask them questions about what they have read. Please sign their diary when they have read at home.
