Aspermont native and former national FFA officer Riley Branch, along with four other student leaders from across the college, were elected to new posts Wednesday (Apr. 21) at the organization’s regular session. more » STAFF HIGHLIGHTS Hernandez tapped Bayer CropScience: New research funds offer hope for improved cotton Bayer CropScience announces a $7.5 million contribution to Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. The contribution in support of new research initiatives and facilities development is eligible for a full funding match through the Texas Research Incentive Program (TRIP), creating a $15 million total contribution to the university. more » All The Best; Annual achievements highlight CASNR Honors Banquet Dozens of outstanding students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored Friday (Apr. 30) at its annual Honors Banquet at the United Spirit Arena. Sponsored by the Ag Council, the event featured a variety of honors, including highest academic achievement. more » Ranch horse team gallops to back-to-back ASHA national championships For the second consecutive year, Texas Tech’s Ranch Horse Team clenched the American Stock Horse Association Collegiate National Championship at the university’s equestrian center in Lubbock. The win capped an undefeated season for the 15 students who competed on the team. more » Ag Communications major Chadwell named new Masked Rider A sophomore agricultural communications major from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources has been selected as Texas Tech University’s 2010-2011 Masked Rider, one of the most iconic symbols in all of college football. Christi Chadwell accepted the reins to Midnight Matador Friday (Apr. 16) at a special ceremony in the Frazier Alumni Pavilion. more » NARHA Region 8 ‘Instructor of the Year’ A talented horsewoman with Texas Tech’s Therapeutic Riding Center has been honored as the ‘Instructor of the Year’ for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association’s Region 8, according to university officials today. Program Director Heather Hernandez was presented the award at the organization’s national conference in Denver. more » Poster Power: Navarrete takes top spot at Regional SACNAS A graduate student from Texas Tech’s Department of Natural Resources Management edged into first place at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science’s Southwestern Regional Conference recently, taking the top spot with a student research poster focusing on wind farms and wintering sandhill cranes on the South Plains. more » CASNR Research: Agriculture carbon benefit may be indirect Though carbon trading likely will not help farmers’ bottom lines significantly, agriculture may benefit indirectly from carbon regulation through the value added by biofuels. Large corporations such as Wal-Mart and General Electric could take advantage of cap and trade policies to improve their carbon footprints. more » Texas Tech rodeo teams end season on winning note Texas Tech’s rodeo teams finished their season with a strong showing last week at the Tarleton State University National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo in Stephenville.
