Almost two dozen of Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural
Resources best and brightest were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, one of the nation’s
oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor societies, today (Apr. 9) at the Allen

Recognition of Excellence; AEC’s Burris selected for Professing
Excellence Award
Scott Burris, an associate professor with Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural
Education and Communications, has been tapped for one of this year’s Professing
Excellence Awards. The honor was presented at a special ceremony today (Mar. 20) at
the Red Raider Lounge in the university’s Student Union Building. more »

Tech’s meat animal evaluation team captures hometown victory in
Lubbock
Texas Tech’s Meat Animal Evaluation Team started the spring season off on the right
foot, claiming first place on Tuesday (Mar. 26) at the National Meat Animal Evaluation
Contest in Lubbock. The event, which rotates among competing universities, was
hosted in Hub City for the first time. more »
Rodeo Update: Women’s rodeo team takes second in NIRA’s
Southwest Region
The Texas Tech women’s rodeo team turned in a strong showing at the Tarleton State
University Stampede Rodeo over the weekend in Stephenville, and the team’s finish
put the group into second place in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’

Snowboarder Magazine; Tech prof lauds new plant-based sunglass lens
use
Snowboarder magazine’s website reports today (Mar. 21) that Zeal Optics is
introducing one of the world’s first sunglass lens using a plant-based bonding agent,
replacing a petroleum-based bonder. With the new e-llume lenses, the Boulder, Colo.based company now believes that it leads the way towards completely removing crude
oil from sunglass production. more »
Microbiological Criteria; AFS’s Loneragan named to national USDA
committee
A professor with the Department of Animal and Food Sciences has been appointed to a
national committee that will provide recommendations on microbial criteria of food.
The selection of Guy Loneragan to the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological
Criteria for Foods was announced by USDA officials. more »
Livestock, wool judging teams shine at Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo
Texas Tech’s Livestock Judging Team and its Wool Judging Team took first place honors
at the intercollegiate livestock judging and wool judging contests on Monday (Mar. 11)
at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “I’m so proud of these kids,” said Leslie
Thompson, chair of Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences. “They’ve
represented the Texas Tech in an outstanding manner.” more »
