BURNING FOOD
Aim
To observe that energy is given out when foods burn.
Equipment
samples of snack foods, tongs, Bunsen burner, two heatproof mats
stopwatch (optional)
What to do
1. Draw a table to record your observations.
2. Set up a Bunsen burner on one heatproof mat, with another mat
beside it.
3. Take a small sample of food. Using tongs, hold it in the Bunsen burner
flame.
4. Keep the food in the flame until it catches fire.
5. Then hold the burning food over the second heatproof mat.
6. Watch the food burning until it goes out. Record what happens.
7. Repeat steps to for each of the food samples.
