HISTORICAL COLLECTION AND ARCHIVES The Van Wagenen Library maintains the College archives and historical collection. All items are either in Aleph or are in the process of being added. The items are retrievable by call number or title search for books or title search for magazines and newspapers. The archives contain campus publications and are located in the vault. The historical collection (located in the Special Collections Room) houses many historical items, a small collection of antique children’s books, and includes materials collected in the area of Schoharie County local history and geology (with an emphasis on speleological material), and historical agricultural material. Loan Policy: Materials are available for use by any patron, but may be used only in the Library. Special permission to borrow the material outside of the Library may be granted by a librarian. Special collections materials will be available by appointment. To avoid damage to materials, they may be photocopied only with a librarian’s permission. Loan Procedure: Patron will make an appointment to use the material in the Library. Librarians will make every reasonable effort to quickly accommodate patrons. A librarian will obtain the materials from the Special Collections Room. Material must be used in the Library in an area near the reference librarian unless special permission is given by a librarian to sign out the material. Key is located at the Reference Desk. If the patron accompanies the librarian, the librarian remains with the patron to select the material. Exceptions may be granted to faculty or other scholars. Materials have item status of “Library Use Only”. Materials for loan outside the building need to be signed out as a special loan with Aleph authorization by a librarian. Material not on Aleph is signed out manually using the historical collection notebook kept at the Reference Desk. Revised 8/2005
