The Library Subject Librarian: Academic Services GRADE 7 Job Description The main areas of responsibility are: i) To assist in the work of Academic Services in planning, standardisation and effective exploitation of library resources for the benefit of the University Community. ii) To act as Librarian to one or more Departments within the University of Bath, as directed by the Head of Academic Services. The special duties of a Subject Librarian are: 1. To ensure full liaison with library users at all levels. This requires daily contact with Departmental staff to acquire knowledge of course development and research activity, and to meet enquiries in relevant areas. You should also keep colleagues and the Head of Academic Services informed of any areas of interest regarding library provision. You will be required to attend general University Committees and other meetings, and to maintain contact with departmental library representatives. 2. To maintain, develop, exploit and promote the collections and services. To co-ordinate and facilitate the use of networked electronic information services in your area. 3. To manage the expenditure of the materials budget for your Departments. 4. To provide instruction in the general use of the Library and its resources (both hard-copy and electronic) to all levels of the User Community. 5. To assist the Faculty Librarian in the supervision, training and development of the Information Librarians. 6. To keep abreast of trends in higher education, librarianship and information science, and relevant developments in IT. To develop links as appropriate with other libraries and relevant professional groups. 7. To carry out other duties as assigned by the Faculty Librarian and the Head of Academic Services.
