Job Description Job Title: Recycling and Waste Management U1R Reports To: Community Leader Location: Emmaus Village, Carlton Job Purpose To carry out the required duties and responsibilities of a member of the staff team. With particular responsibility for Recycling and Waste Management within our Sorting Warehouse (U1R) and Recycling Yard. Responsible for all Health and Safety requirements, Fire Safety and COSHH. (U1R – Under 1 Roof) Main Responsibilities Manage the operation of recycling, re-reuse and waste within the Sorting Warehouse (U1R) and Recycling Yard, with emphasis on resale for all donated items. Support the development and management of Companions’ work activities in the Sorting Warehouse (U1R) and Recycling Yard to provide significant and meaningful work to build up skills and self-esteem while making a contribution to the success of the Community Support the daily tasks required within the specified areas, training and supervising Companions as appropriate. Support opportunities to enable Companions to play a proactive role in the operation of Community businesses and activities. To keep up to date with any legislation and training relating to the job Ensure completion of records necessary for each task undertaken Ensure all work is carried out to good standards and within the health and safety regulations. Complying with current recycling legislation and EU policy Evaluating the benefits of collection, transportation and processing methods To be available to cover driving of vehicles when necessary. To maintain all Health and Safety requirements, with emphasis on Risk Assessments, Fire Safety and COSHH Ensure all paperwork relating to Health and Safety, Risk Assessments and Fire Safety are accurate and up to date in relation to the needs of the Community and current legislation. Any other duties as required by the Operations Manager within the areas of site maintenance Provide ‘On Call’ night time cover and act as Responsible Person on duty. (Approximately one evening a week and one weekend in five. Accommodation will be made available- Three Bedroom House) Working Conditions Emmaus Village Carlton runs its business operations six days a week, Monday to Saturday and provides 24 hour, 7-day/week support to the Community. Days and hours of work will be agreed with the Community Leader as appropriate. Emmaus works with vulnerable people. Staff and volunteers must observe the proper demarcation and professional boundaries while performing their role. All roles within Emmaus Village Carlton are subject to enhanced CRB checks. All staff must always act in a way which will maintain the good reputation of Emmaus Village Carlton, upholding the policies and procedures of Emmaus and striving to preserve good working relationships with Staff, Volunteers, Companions and Trustees. All staff are obligated to keep the appropriate and key personnel well informed of significant matters relating to the Community. 1 In Emmaus, volunteers are an important resource and make a vital contribution to Emmaus’ aim to take action to help disadvantaged people. Work is conducted in an environmentally aware manner with the aim of ensuring all resources are utilised effectively and efficiently. Sound “value for money” principles are necessary in undertaking purchasing or supply of goods and services. Physical Requirements Emmaus Village Carlton is based on one extensive site. There four trading areas, an ‘Under 1 Roof’ building for reception and sorting of donated goods, a waste recycling area, a garden and four residential areas. Completing duties and responsibilities effectively will entail considerable movement around these various activities.
