Tower Coating System
Overview
MMT Manufacturing Corp. Designs and manufactures both
retractable and fixed Tower Coating Systems for original
manufacturers of printing presses that are patent protected. Our
products are currently being used on presses manufactured by
Heidelberg GMBH, Ryobi Limited and Hamada Printing Press
Company.
Tower Coating Systems designed by MMT generally include an
integrated Infrared Drying System to insure proper drying of
Aqueous coatings. MMT can also provide water cooled UV Curing
Systems designed for both delivery and interstation installation for
the purpose of curing UV hybrid inks and coatings that are
becoming more popular.
Because MMT can offer a variety of Tower Coater types we can
supply the system that the press manufacturer feels is best suited
to their press and the price point they want to maintain for their
customers. Once designed the press manufacturer has the option of
either having MMT manufacture the equipment for them or they can
manufacture all or part of the equipment themselves under a
License Agreement that is tied to the term of the patent involved.
Major System Components
Electrical Control Unit – The control unit will very depending on
the type of drive system to be used which will either be servo
or hydraulic. Regardless of the drive system this cabinet will
contain all the electrical components required along with a
PLC control system.
Blower & Hydraulic – again depending on the type of system
being produced a cabinet will be provided to hold the
necessary blowers for the Infrared Drying System, Exhaust
System and hydraulic power unit if required.
Remote & Unit Operating Stations – The system is supplied with
both operator stations mounted at the delivery of the press as
well at the Tower Coater. The delivery station controls both
the dryer and coater functions while the unit operator is
designed specifically for coater operations.
Coating Head – as previously mentioned MMT produces several
types of Tower Coaters. All of these designs include all the
components required for the operation of the coater. In some
cases the press manufacturer may opt to provide certain
portions of the coater such as the blanket cylinder and plate
clamping system to maintain a degree of consistency between
the coater and ink towers. If this election were made the price
of the MMT Tower Coater would naturally be reduced.
Infrared Drying System – included in the drying system is an air
cooled infrared head with proprietary infrared emitters,
variably controlled heated air knife system and complete
exhaust system that includes the exhaust hood.
Features
All MMT Tower Coating Systems feature precise metering of the
coatings being applied through the use of anilox roll
technology with a trailing edge doctor blade system.
Retractable Tower Coaters provided by MMT are the only type
that allows the printer to do conventional printing while the
Tower Coating is being cleaned or prepared for the next job of
the day.
The anilox roll is separately driven so the speed can be equal to
the press, which it is in the automatic mode or either faster or
slower than the press in the manual mode. This allows the
printer to either increase or decrease the coat weight being
applied by adjusting the speed of the anilox roll.
The coater can be used to apply Aqueous and UV coatings as well
as various types of Flexo inks including metalics. In addition
the system is capable of flood, large spot and sophisticated
spot coatings.
Because the MMT coater comes with an integrated Infrared or UV
System performance can be guaranteed and any questions
regarding the overall quality of the coated piece can be
directed to one source.
