Egyptian gods, goddesses, and rulers RESEARCH report and speech Imagine what it would be like to meet the gods, goddesses, and rulers of ancient Egypt! We will have an opportunity to experience this on Friday, January 17th when each student BECOMES the assigned person. Students will dress up in costume, with appropriate props, and give a speech as if they ARE the god/goddess/ruler based on the research report that they write in advance. The entire report is due on the same day as the speech, but each part must be turned in along the way. The project must include: 1. Title page with title, student’s name, date, and an appropriate, detailed, colored picture Typed, original research report with 8 headings/titles followed by 8 paragraphs of 4-6 sentences for each of the following things (32-48 sentences required) Gods/Goddesses directions: Rulers/Pharoahs directions: 2. Introduction to the report (hook, background information, connection, thesis) 3. Name of god/goddess and what it means (origin) 3. Name of ruler and what it means (origin) 4. What the god/goddess is supposed to have looked like physically 4. What the ruler is supposed to have looked like physically 5. Where their god/goddess is supposed to have lived 5. What city did their ruler live in and when did he rule 6. What their god/goddess is “in charge of” or responsible for 6. What their ruler accomplished as pharaoh 7. What things are associated with their god/goddess and/or What “story” is their god/goddess most famous for 7. What is this ruler most famous for (why was he important)? 8. Any other important, interesting, or amusing facts about your person 9. Conclusion (Imagine statement, restate what your report was about using different words, repeat your thesis in a different way, and end with a powerful ending 10. Hand – drawn, detailed, and colored picture of what the god/goddess would have looked like and what items would be seen with the god/goddess. Must fill up entire page 11. Reference page listing the sources for all information in the report following the correct MLA format (see example provided at the end of the directions 12. Written speech that is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the research report. Speech should include a hook to draw us into your speech, who you are, what you are famous for, interesting facts that we would find fascinating, entertaining, or informative, and a conclusion. It should be about 1:15-1:45 long. You must prepare and memorize your speech because no notes will be allowed during the presentation Important due dates: 1,2,3 – due Thursday, 12/12/13 4,5,6 – due Thursday 12/19/13 7,8,9, - due Thursday, 1/9/14 10,11,12 (speech) – due Thursday 1/16/14 Present memorized speech and turn in research report – Friday 1/17/14 Your speech will be graded on: speaking loudly, clearly, fluently, no pauses, and with enthusiasm (be dramatic!). Eye contact (looking at your audience) How interesting and informative the speech was Appropriate, creative costume and props that show effort and make your person come alive Your research report will be graded on: Accurate, interesting information that draws in the reader Demonstration of substantial time, effort and thought Spelling, punctuation, and grammar is correct Visually appealing and neatly organized (looks superb!)
