PEABODY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (PEP) Fall 2014 OFFERINGS Tuesday, September 16 – Thursday, October 23, 2014 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school from 3:15-4:15 The Peabody Enrichment Program is specifically designed to augment the traditional academic program with in-depth exposure to a variety of interesting, educational and fun topics after school. All fees include supply costs. Registration is open until Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Please submit your form and payment to the front office as soon as possible – class space is limited and will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note the Fall PEP will run for six weeks, Tuesday, September 16 to Thursday, October 23, 2014. *************************************************************************************** TUESDAYS MAKING MAD LIBS (Grades K-2). Instructor: Miranda Watson Explore the art of storytelling as we create our very own book of Mad Libs from scratch! We'll have fun learning to write as a team as we craft a series of short stories and turn them into Mad Libs. By the end of the class we'll have compiled a whole book to take home and share! Fee= $95; 6 students maximum (3 minimum). MUSICAL THEATRE MOVEMENT (Grades 2-6). Instructor: Melissa Charles Move and groove to your favorite musical theatre hits! You will have lots of fun, get plenty of exercise, and learn new dances to show off to your friends and family. Fee= $95; 20 students maximum (5 minimum). SWEDING FILM: 101 (Grades 4-6). Instructor: Amanda Patterson, Lighthouse Studio Learn the basic fundamentals of storyboarding, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, sound, production design, and editing while creating your own Sweded film! What is Sweding, you ask? A highly creative form of filmmaking inspired by the film Be Kind Rewind. We will work collaboratively to choose a favorite film and recreate it from memory. Fee: $120; 8 students maximum (4 minimum). 1 Revised: 7/30/14 WEDNESDAYS CERAMICS (Grades 2-6). Instructor: Novella Mawyer, Lazy Daisy Ceramics. This class is an introduction to many ceramic arts painting techniques. Students will design and paint 6 "ready-topaint" pottery/ceramic pieces using fired underglazes and glazes. Students will take home six one-of-a-kind pieces. Fee= $150; 15 students maximum (5 minimum). ACTING 101 (4-8). Instructor: John Emm. Students will work on monologues (students will receive a monologue book written by the instructor), as this is a very important step in the acting process. Through various acting games and techniques, students will also learn about the art of collaboration, the benefit of a team, and the importance of listening. This class will be lots of fun! Fee: $130; 10 students maximum (5 minimum). QUICK START TENNIS CLUB (Grades K-2). Instructor: Chris "Cubby" Cubbage, Matilda Blue Tennis Developmental tennis class using the QuickStart, “Kid's Sized” methodology. Classes can be taught in a small space using 36 foot courts and a slower moving ball. The main goal of each class is for the student to learn at their own pace while developing a basic understanding of actual play and rally. This program is “tons of fun” low stress and teaches sportsmanship and basic core values. All equipment is provided. Fee= $95; 12 students maximum (4 minimum). THURSDAYS LEGO: AMAZING ANIMALS (Grades K-5). Instructor: Bricks 4 Kidz Students will build models of snakes, insects, mammals, and more. We will discuss fascinating facts about the animals we build and celebrate the wonders of the animal kingdom. Fee: $120; 20 students maximum (8 minimum). QUICK START TENNIS CLUB (Grades 3-6). Instructor: Anna Gorisch. Put your favorite literary characters on trial! In this course, students will receive a basic introduction to legal concepts and apply them to the actions of characters in a book or short story. Through preparing for the trial, students will gain a deeper understanding of character and human behavior as well as issues related to right and wrong (e.g. legal wrong versus moral wrong). At the end of the six weeks, students will perform the trial for an audience of family, friends, and the Peabody community. Fee: $95; 8 students maximum (3 minimum). HIP HOP DANCE (Grades 3-5). Instructor: Amanda Liscouski, Bright Fly Dance This fun, high energy class introduces the basics of hip hop styles, moves, and steps. Goals for the session include improving rhythm, learning body isolations, and gaining confidence in self-expression. Students will learn a fun dance routine, and will also be encouraged to move creatively to express their own individual style.
