EQUITREKKING Releases Six New Episodes April 2009 for Total of Twenty-Six
Half-Hours
High Definition Fourth Season Visits Southern Spain, Wales, Central Turkey, Quebec
City and Beyond, Scotland and Alaska
March 1, 2009 –EQUITREKKING, the travel television series that takes viewers
horseback riding around the world to experience history, adventure and culture, is
releasing six new half-hour high definition episodes to Public Television stations in April
for a total of twenty-six episodes.
Equitrekking’s new fourth season finds host and equestrian travel expert Darley Newman
learning dressage in Spain, viewing bald eagles and other wildlife on the Kenai Peninsula
in Alaska, riding to castles in Scotland, visiting underground cities and ancient villages
on Arabian horses in Central Turkey, riding the wide beaches on the Gower Peninsula in
Wales and more. Exotic locations include Southern Spain, Scotland, Quebec City and
Beyond, Wales, Central Turkey and Alaska.
“In each new destination, I find new horse breeds, new challenging terrain, beautiful
scenery and welcoming locals who show me the best of their world in and out of the
saddle,” said Darley. “Whether I’m rock climbing in Quebec, viewing wildlife in the
Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska or learning how olive oil is made in Spain, I am
always with local people, so viewers are learning about each destination through the
locals, which is truly the best way to travel.”
The Equitrekking crew is currently in production on new episodes as part of a fifth
season, venturing to Uruguay, Montana, Turkey, Alberta and beyond.
EQUITREKKING’s companion book coffee table book, Equitrekking: Travel
Adventures on Horseback published by Chronicle Books and written by Darley Newman
and photographed by Chip Ward, features stunning photographs and descriptions of
EQUITREKKING’s first 13 episodes. Equitrekking was recently featured in National
Geographic’s Intelligent Travel, Ralph Lauren magazine and the Washington Post.
In addition to producing EQUITREKKING, host Darley Newman writes a popular
travel blog, a monthly e-newsletter and serves as managing editor of Equitrekking.com.
Her helpful tips and articles are featured in Practical Horsemen and True West
magazines, where readers are prompted to watch the Equitrekking series on Public

Television. She participates in frequent media interviews and travels around the country

Darley Newman is travel expert, published author and adventurer, who searches the

globe for the best in equestrian travel, while learning about local history, culture and
food, for the high definition Equitrekking television series that she created. Darley is the
host and producer of Equitrekking®, the first travel television series to explore the globe
on horseback. Equitrekking is broadcast in on Public Television stations across the
nation, on CREATE, a nationwide Public Television lifestyle channel and on various
international networks.
Darley grew up in South Carolina and started riding horses at the age of seven at camp in
the mountains of North Carolina. Growing up in Myrtle Beach, Darley was able to spend
lots of time outdoors at the beach, playing tennis, surfing, taking tap dance lessons and
participating in community theatre. In high school and college, Darley studied in Spain
and Italy, trips that fueled her interest in seeing the world. Primarily an English rider,
Darley rides different horses and all types of local riding styles as she travels the globe.
With Equitrekking, Darley combines her passion for horses and travel with her
background in television production. Darley has worked at 48 Hours, CBS, the WB, The
Talk Radio News Service and on various PBS documentaries and series. While filming of
Equitrekking, Darley constantly encounters challenging places to explore on horseback,
like the crater of a volcano on Maui, the backcountry in snowy Quebec, the varied terrain
along the U.S. Mexico border and the rainforest in Costa Rica and Belize. She’s ridden
championship cutting horses in Colorado, award winning Andalusians in Spain and
famous movie star horses in Utah.
Darley chronicles her adventures through Darley’s Blog, Equisearch.com and for
Equitrekking’s monthly e-newsletter. She is author of the Equitrekking: Travel
Adventures on Horseback companion book, published by Chronicle Books. This
beautiful coffee table style travelogue showcases Equitrekking’s first 13 destinations
through Darley’s writings and Chip Ward’s stunning photography. Recently reviewed in
the Denver Post and Budget Travel, Equitrekking: Travel Adventures on Horseback takes

Kathy Haggerty is an award-winning composer, who has produced music for nationally
distributed independent feature films, short films and television. Her original scores,
songs and sound combine ethereal vocals with lush harmonies. She produces original
music for EQUITREKKING, including EQUITREKKING’s theme song.
Vice-President of Marketing Alex Schwartz brings a diverse background in
entertainment marketing and television production to the EQUITREKKING series.
Schwartz has worked for top entertainment companies in talent management and
production. He has developed the careers of dozens of actors and recently helped
produce the Danny DeVito series on the FX channel. A great lover of social enterprise
and a natural salesman, Alex develops new advertising vehicles and creative promotions
for EQUITREKKING. Schwartz is completing post graduate work at NYU and
Columbia University.
