The emphasis will be on acquiring a more advanced level of authentic, current Spanish and using this in a communicative, spontaneous way. Course description: Develop all aspects of your Spanish; increase conversational fluency using authentic Spanish texts, learn contemporary vocabulary and traditional Spanish sayings, deepen your knowledge of grammar and resolve problem areas. Topics to be negotiated on first session. 3 years’ study or equivalent required. Any prior knowledge or entry requirements? Students are expected to have studied the language for a minimum of three years (GCSE level+) with a working knowledge of the main verb tenses and a desire to understand the structure and organisation of the language in more depth. Course content: what topics will the course cover? Topics to be negotiated during the first session- the ethos of the course will continue to be to improve language skills across the board. We will continue to target common areas of uncertainty in the language, eg the use of the subjunctive. Work will be set between sessions and written feedback given. Tasks will be discussed within the group and oral feedback and discussion will take place during and after every activity. Time is set aside during break/coffee time for individual queries and feedback. Learning outcomes: these are the intended outcomes and may be revised in discussion with the class. Students are encouraged to think about and identify their own individual outcomes. By the end of the course, students should be able to: 1. Give a presentation in Spanish and respond to questions put to them on it. 2. Translate extended authentic texts and debate them in class 3. Continue to increase their knowledge of contemporary Spanish vocabulary and culture and of any topic tabled by the group in the initial session. 4.
