As you may be aware, the new South Glasgow University Hospital and new
Royal Hospital for Sick Children are due to open on the current Southern site
early in 2015.
With this in mind, please note that positions based within the Victoria
Infirmary, Mansionhouse Unit, the Western Infirmary and the current Royal
Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill will change location and move to the new
hospitals.
Gartnavel General Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary will also have some
services affected by moves to the new Hospitals.
These changes mean your base may change after joining us and you will be
informed as soon as possible prior to any change of base.
SUMMARY INFORMATION RELATING TO THIS POSITION
POST: SPECIALITY DOCTOR FOR CHILD AND ADOLESCENT MENTAL
HEALTH SERVICES
BASE: ARANTHRUE CENTRE & LARKFIELD CHILD & FAMILY CENTRE
This post is funded for 1 year, to enhance and develop Tier 3 CAMHS in
South Clyde. The post is based at Larkfield CAMHS, Greenock (4 PAs) and
Aranthrue CAMHS, Renfrew (6 PAs)
The post holder will be a member of multidisciplinary team helping to
developing the Tier 3 CAMH service for South Clyde for the 0-18 year old
children, young people and their families/carers. Experience in Psychiatry is
essential and experience in Paediatrics, General Practice or a Medical
Specialty would be advantageous.
The Specialty Doctor’s primary responsibilities are the medical and psychiatric
assessment and treatment of young people with mental health problems in a
community setting. This will be with supervision and support from Consultant
Psychiatrists (Dr Saman Khan in Inverclyde and Dr Kim Lim and Dr Rebecca
Philip in Renfrew). In addition the post holder will be encouraged to develop
special interests, for example a particular treatment modality or expertise in a
particular disorder. There are many opportunities for internal and external

The Inverclyde service is situated in Greenock on the West coast approx 23
miles from Glasgow, and covers the coastal towns of Port Glasgow, Greenock
and Gourock. The Renfrew service is in the town of Renfrew, near Glasgow.
There are good transport links to the vibrant multicultural city of Glasgow,
providing a range of Cultural, Sporting and Outdoor activities. There is easy
access to the beautiful Scottish Highlands and Islands and a major
international Airport giving direct access to a variety of destinations.
All applicants must possess Full GMC Registration, a licence to practice and
have at least 4 Years full time Post Graduate Training, two of which must
have been in relevant specialties or you will demonstrate and evidence
equivalent experience and competencies.

CAMHS in Inverclyde
Inverclyde Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
is a specialist NHS multidisciplinary team, consisting of Psychiatry,
Psychology, Nursing, and trainees in those disciplines. Close
liaison and collaboration with colleagues in Social Work Services
and Education, as well as Community and Voluntary Agencies, are
key to joint practice and providing for the needs of the children,
young people, parents and carers, with whom we work.
CAMHS’ primary function is to provide outpatient health input to
the mental health needs of children and young people, 0 – 18, in
Inverclyde, Cowal and Bute. We serve a combined population of
around 117,000, with the main centres of population in Greenock,
Gourock, Port Glasgow, Dunoon and Rothesay and many smaller
communities and rural locations. Although diverse, all districts
have areas of social and material deprivation, high unemployment,
mental health problems in parents, substance misuse and all the
inherent health and social problems associated with people living
in such circumstances.
CAMHS in Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire CAMHS is based at the Aranthrue Centre. The team
follows the multidisciplinary team approach described above. The
main focus of work is the assessment and treatment of moderate
to severe mental health problems in children and young people
aged 0-18 years old across Renfrewshire (population 174,000).
Support and care is given to children, young people and their
families and other professionals involved in their well being. Most
duties are carried out in an out patient setting, following the Choice
and Partnership Approach (CAPA) model. The team also provides
psychiatric input to children and young people admitted to the
Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and on rare occasions to
teenagers admitted to Dykebar Hospital.
Most referrals come from GPs but CAMHS welcome referral from
other medical sources and appreciate the support and input of
colleagues in any relevant field. For further information about the

Referral Criteria for Community CAMHS service
We accept referrals from any agency, but all non health referrers must inform
the child’s GP (e.g. Copy referral letter)
 Referral can be made of a child or young person before their 18 th
birthday.
The team are skilled in assessing and managing mental health problems in
children and young people.
The teams are able to offer a wide range of treatments including various
group and individual therapies and family therapy. The Centre has excellent
links with paediatrics services including neurology and is able to easily access
a full range of investigative facilities. There are also close links with Skye
House and Caledonia House inpatient facilities and the University Department
of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. There is an active academic programme
and good academic links with other centres.
The Inverclyde multi-disciplinary team is headed up by Dr Saman Khan,
Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and the Renfrewshire CAMHS
Consultants are Dr Kim Lim and Dr Rebecca Philip.
The CAMHS centre staffing includes the disciplines of nursing, clinical
psychology, family therapy, admin support and, sessional input from other
professionals such as OT, Speech and Language therapy and Dietetics as
appropraite. There are also routinely core and ST4 psychiatrists on rotational
placement. The Child and family disability social work team works closely
with the CAMHS teams.
There are currently 1.0 wte Speciality Doctor posts, this vacancy is because
the increase in patient numbers led to an increase in medical staffing following
a resource allocation model review.

The Post
The post is 10 Programmed Activities per week. 4 based at Inverclyde
CAMHS and 6 based at Renfrew CAMHS
The Postholder will be responsible to Dr Saman Khan Drs Kim Lim and
Rebecca Philip, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.
The post-holder’s primary responsibilities are the day to day medical and
psychiatric assessment and treatment of Community Child and adolescent
psychiatry patients attending the Centres. Such responsibilities will be
undertaken under the supervision and support of the Consultant Psychiatrists
(Dr Saman Khan, Dr Kim Lim and Dr Rebecca Philip). If not already an
Approved Medical Practitioner under the terms of the Mental Health (Care and
Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 training will be arranged as soon as possible
after appointment is made. In addition the post-holder will be encouraged to
develop special interests for example, a particular treatment modality or in the
management of a particular disorder. The post-holder will also be supported
in pursuing research and/or audit.
The clinical commitments of the post will be contained within the following
time-table but there may be some flexibility to work evenings or long days.
There is no out of hours duty. Participation in evening work is optional in lieu
of daytime work by negotiation.

New Entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the minimum point of the

SUPERANNUATION
New entrants to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who are aged sixteen but
under seventy five will be enrolled automatically into membership of the NHS
