Mental Health services in Inverclyde are provided by integrated health and social work multidisciplinary CMHT, supported by a Primary Care Mental Health Team. This post is based at the newly refurbished Langhill Clinic, Inverclyde Royal Hospital, and the Inverclyde Community Mental Health Team based at Crown House. The posts consist of 10 PA’s allocated between the Inverclyde CMHT and the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at the Langhill Clinic. It will be possible to negotiate one further PA for additional duties. The post holder will be supported by appropriate medical secretary time and by junior doctor input for inpatient sessions. Responsibilities are shared between a total of 5 general adult psychiatrists in Inverclyde, and the successful applicant would be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to inpatients and outpatients. The successful candidate would be encouraged to take the opportunities available for further education and continuing professional development. There are active education and audit programmes within the service. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, a licence to practice. MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES CONSULTANT IN GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY GREATER GLASGOW & CLYDE MENTAL HEALTH PARTNERSHIP INVERCLYDE CHCP 6 MONTH LOCUM POSITION Inverclyde CMHT & Acute Admissions Unit, Inverclyde Royal Hospital JOB DESCRIPTION CONSULTANT GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRIST – Inverclyde CMHT and Acute Admissions Unit, Langhill Clinic, Inverclyde Royal Hospital Applications are invited from a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for this full time locum General Adult post. The post is offered for a 6 month period prior to appointment of substantive consultant post. Responsibilities would be shared, along with the other Consultants, for the adult population of Inverclyde. There is an established Community Mental Health Team in Inverclyde, and the successful applicant will be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to inpatients and outpatients. They will be supported by Junior Doctor sessions and Medical Secretary input. 1. Present Service Provision Community mental health services in Inverclyde are part of the Inverclyde CHCP, and cover a total population of 90,000. The Mental Health Partnership for Greater Glasgow and Clyde supports and coordinates the delivery of adult mental health services delivered by CHCPs in four divisions across the Board area: South Clyde, South Glasgow, West Glasgow and Northeast Glasgow. Susannah McCorry-Rice is the Head of Mental Health & Partnerships and the Clinical Director is Dr Alexander Thom. Deborah Gillespie is the Services Manager of Mental Health and Wellbeing. The Associate Medical Director for Mental Health is Dr Michael Smith and the CHCP Director is Brian Moore. Inpatient psychiatric services in Inverclyde are provided at the newly refurbished (April 2012) Langhill Clinic, Inverclyde Royal Hospital, which has 20 acute inpatient beds and 8 IPCU beds. A total of 20 beds provide inpatient intensive rehabilitation and continuing care services for South Clyde plus at the current time there are 20 continuing care beds located within the nearby Ravenscraig Hospital Campus. Community Adult Mental Health Services are currently provided by an integrated Community Mental Health Team which is based in Crown House in central Greenock. The CMHT currently comprises of one Service Manager, one Consultant Psychologist, one Nurse Team Lead, eight Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse Specialists, three Band 6 OT’s, eleven Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurses, seven Band 3 Support Workers, two Senior Social Workers, four Social Work Senior Practitioners, one Social Worker, two Social Work Assistants, three Homemakers, two Resource Workers, one Support Worker, one Home Support and Day Care Worker and six Home-helps. Community Services are undergoing significant redesign currently with the introduction in 2014 of a Community Response Service (CRS) providing intensive community assessment and treatment. There is an established Primary Care Mental Health Team which provides time limited psychological interventions to patients with mild to moderate mental health difficulties delivered within a primary care setting. There are separate teams for Liaison Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Services. Patients in Inverclyde have access to specialist psychology, psychotherapy and addiction services. Forensic service provision includes a forensic CMHT for Inverclyde. The Eating Disorder Service is based in the Langhill Clinic, Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Child and Adolescent Services are based at the Child and Family Unit, Larkfield Road, Greenock. The currently Glasgow based Esteem Service is likely to expand and cover Clyde in 2014. 2. Medical Staffing (Inverclyde Division of Psychiatry) (i) General Adult Psychiatry Dr James Loudon - General Adult Psychiatry / Clinical Lead Dr Eilidh Orr - General Adult Psychiatry Dr Alistair Deering – General Adult Psychiatry / Liaison Psychiatry / Eating Disorders. Duties of the Post This 10-session consultant post is based at The Langhill Clinic, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the Inverclyde CMHT. The successful applicant will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive General Adult Psychiatric service to the Inverclyde area. This area has a total population of 90,000. The successful candidate will be expected to provide a comprehensive range of services to General Adult patients. This will include inpatient and outpatient treatments working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The inpatient duties consist of managing one third of 20 in patient beds plus 10 continuing care patients. Outpatient duties consist of 3 clinics per week. Medical input to the Community Response Service will be job planned during this locum period . This is a newly developed community service providing home treatment for patients requiring intensive nursing and medical input. The consultant will not be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota. The successful candidate will however participate in the daytime (9am5pm weekdays) on call rota and cover for colleagues during absence in line with arrangements set out in the National Terms and Conditions. The on call week day rota covers the whole of Inverclyde and full time Consultants are on call 2 or 3 days per month. Domiciliary visits, court reports, Mental Health Act/Adults with Incapacity work and liaison assessments will be undertaken as required. The post will have sessional support as required from a Medical Secretary and ST1-3/FY2 doctor. Nine sessions are allocated to direct clinical care split between the Inpatient Unit and the CMHT. There is one session allocated to supporting professional activities. If there is any requirement to increase the SPA’s this can be negotiated. One further EPA can be negotiated for service provision. 4. Teaching/Administration The post holder will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the proper function of the clinical team including appraisal, clinical and non-clinical supervision of medical staff and clinical supervision of non-medical staff. It is expected that the successful candidate will take part in Job Planning, Appraisal, Peer Review and Continuing Professional Development. 5. EXAMPLE TIMETABLE ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULING COULD BE NEGOTIATED AS REQUIRED The basic contract will be for a 10 PA consultant contract. A split of 9:1 between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities is now the advertised standard for all new consultant job plans in Scotland. The one SPA minimum will reflect activity such as appraisal, personal audit and professional development occurring outside study leave time. Once the candidate has been appointed more SPA time may be agreed for activities such as undergraduate and postgraduate medical training which takes place outside direct clinical care, as well as research and/or management. These activities must be specifically and clearly identified and be agreed with the candidate and desired by the department.
