European Commission Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge Programme VACANCIES FOR EXPERIENCED RESEARCHERS Proteomics and functional genomics in diagnostic target development The National Diagnostics Centre (NDC), National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland is seeking to recruit experienced scientists (4) to participate in the Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge Development project entitled ‘Proteomics and functional genomics in diagnostics target development’. The NDC has considerable experience in the development of rapid and sensitive diagnostic systems for a wide range of applications. The major areas of expertise are in immunodiagnostics, nucleic acid-based diagnostics, and more fundamental studies on gene regulation are also carried out at the Centre. The current topics of interest include infectious diseases, cancer diagnostics and the quality traits of farmed fish species. The NDC has strong collaborative links with experts in each of these areas. The aim of this project is to use proteomic and genomic approaches to identify novel protein and molecular diagnostic markers which will be of commercial interest. Recruited fellows will be directly involved in carrying out either proteomic or genomic studies in one of the above fields. They will also be responsible for providing the staff of the host laboratory with state-of-art knowledge, through participation in seminars, direct involvement in on-going research projects and training. Applicants for this position should possess a Ph.D. or at least 4 years relevant post-graduate experience. Successful candidates will be highly motivated scientists with proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. A thorough knowledge of one of the following technologies is essential and a track record of publications demonstrating the application of each is desirable: Proteomic techniques, including 2-D gel electrophoresis, SELDI, protein purification, protein/peptide mass spectrometry (2 posts) Functional genomics, including practical aspects of microarray design and analysis, and bioinformatics. (2 posts) To be eligible, applicants must fulfil the criteria for Marie Curie fellows. In particular, Irish citizens, as well as residents who have resided in Ireland for more than 12 months within the last three years, are not eligible. Pay and conditions also follow the guidelines of the Marie Curie scheme. Fluency in English is required. The starting date for this project is 1st September, 2005. NUI, Galway is an equal opportunity employer.
