Begin the lesson with a brief class discussion about kangaroos. They are special animals that have a pouch in front for carrying their babies. 2. Show pupils a sample of a kangaroo stationery holder. MATERIALS Pictures of kangaroos, sample of end product DEVELOPMENT: 1. Ask pupils to list the shapes they can see on the holder. 2. Pupils to paint one big paper plate. Then, they will cut the smaller paper plate into half to get a semi-circle. Paint the back of the small paper plate. Put them aside to dry. 3. Next, cut two circles and crescent shapes for the heads and ears of the mother and baby kangaroo. 4. Cut out shapes to make the eyes 5. Cut out the noses. Glue the pieces together. Paper plates, scissors, acrylic paint, coloured construction paper Scissors, black and white paper Glue 6. Glue the small paper plate to the big paper plate, Make sure that a pocket is created when the two are glued together. Then, glue the heads on. Lastly put a string through the big paper plate behind the head of the mother kangaroo. Now, the holder can be hung. CLOSURE : Ask pupils how they can personalize their kangaroo stationery holder. E.g They can paint their names on the paper plates near the bottom of the pouch. They may also add a tail and write their name on the tail. string
