Position Title: Position begins: Application Deadline: School Psychologist August 2015 Open until filled Overview: The Atlantic City Community Charter School is an intensive literacy-focused school emphasizing reading independently, voraciously, and successfully within a community of caring indiiduals. Summary of Expectations Provide a full range of psychological services for students. Provide leadership in promoting an understanding of positive mental health and the needs of children; consult with the instructional staff in adjusting programs and experiences to enhance learning; counsel individuals and groups. The School Psychologist will work with all whose responsibilities focus on the educational, social, and emotional well-being of our students. Job Requirements & Experience Standard New Jersey School Psychologist Certificate Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university Experience and training in providing counseling to students and their families related to school issues Experience and training in conducting assessments and providing appropriate diagnoses/recommendations NJ DOE required background checks Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, learning assessment diagnosis, psychological research related to learning and group & individual therapy strategies. Participate in the evaluation, classification and placement of all students with special needs Administer, score and evaluate standard psychological tests for the purpose of assessing the intellectual, educational, emotional, social and behavior characteristics of those students referred Interpret the results of psychological testing and assist in the development and coordination of an appropriate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student requiring special education and/or related services and participate in the ongoing evaluation of the academic progress and educational placement of classified students. Provide counseling to students and their families as needed in relation to school issues Assist in the development and delivery of in-service programs and parent seminars Identify and assess the learning, development and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. Use assessment data about the students and their environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs Provide interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment Provide consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students Assist in planning, development and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs Deliver a planned and coordinated program of psychological services Apply ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observe relevant laws and policies that govern practice. Participate in professional organizations and continually seek to improve professional knowledge and skill Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
