A Lucky Horse
A couple of years ago, I sold a really athlete mare to a young lady. This mare, Zoe I knew had
wonderful potential but needed a rider with patients, time, good riding ability and lots of love.
Well Zoe’s lady has all that. This summer Zoe developed an abses in her front foot the vet said
she had never seen the likes of. All summer Zoe been laid up and her foot soaked. She couldn’t
be ridden. So being the nice person I believe I am, I loaned Zoe Lady Riko. Now I really like
Riko. He’s athlete, quick, loves to trail ride, will ask to go new places, is well behaved and him
and I obvious can communicate without words. Well, Zoe’s Lady rode Riko and appreciated me
loading him to her but they never really develop that communication Riko and I have. Riko was
always just a horse to her, were to me Riko is much more. Guest that’s why I haven’t sold him
as I should. I just really like Riko. I can ask him if he would like to go faster and sometimes he
does and sometimes he doesn’t. But it’s kind of like we share a wave link that nobody else is
on.
Now just recently Zoe’s been able to be ridden again gently. She has gone out every day
and you can tell Zoe’s got that same bond with her lady as I have with Riko. Zoe is not quite as
well trained but she defiantly knows who her person is. Now this bonding didn’t happen
overnight, it takes time to build but once you let the bond build then you have a real partner,
one that looks for you at the gate and one that shares your modes, picks you up when you are
down and is there to have laughs with. This is the type of love that is hard to put into words
but is why wonderful.
Sometimes horses just get lucky. This summer I’m managed to find wonderful homes for
4 or 5 nice horses. I don’t know how it works but every one of my horses have gone to
wonderful folks and believe that horse is the best horse in the world. Any you know what, they
are all correct!!! I think and hope each one of these horse loving people develop that lasting
bond with their horse that I share with one or two of mine. Not all horses are this luck
wouldn't it be nice if they were.
