Lakeside Softball Varsity Letters & Awards The following guidelines will determine the awarding of a Varsity Letter for LHS softball: A player who is on the Varsity roster for half (50%) of the team’s games AND finishes the season on the Varsity roster will earn her letter. A player who plays (and is not just on the roster) in both a League/District Tournament game AND a WIAA 1A State Tournament game may earn her letter if she was also on the roster for one-quarter (25%) of the season. A senior who has participated in three (3) consecutive years of softball will earn her letter, regardless of her roster status. A team manager/statistician who is with the Varsity team for half (50%) of the season AND finishes the season with Varsity will earn her/his letter. For any player to be eligible for a Varsity Letter and/or a Certificate of Participation, she must: Finish the season in good standing Complete the season by being on the JV or Varsity roster in the final game of the year (NOTE: injured or ill players are exempt; however, players should be involved with the team in some capacity) NOTE: Although earning a Varsity Letter is a high goal for many athletes, it shouldn’t be a player’s ultimate reason for playing a sport. Competing, participating, striving for improvement, having fun, being part of a team, and playing for the mere love of the sport should be the focus. The Letter isn’t a life or death issue, nor does it determine a person’s character. So if a player doesn’t earn a letter in any given year, it shouldn’t be viewed as a failure. After all, there is no such thing as “just a JV” player. All players are important to a program, and we will treat you accordingly.
