Britten–Pears Young Artist Programme
Artist Development Co-ordinator – Vocal & Residencies
JOB DESCRIPTION
Aldeburgh Music’s (AM) activities encompass: a year-round performance programme
including the Aldeburgh Festival; professional development through the Britten–Pears Young
Artist Programme and Aldeburgh Residencies; education work with schools, prisons and the
wider community; and the management of Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
The Britten–Pears Young Artist Programme is the UK’s leading development programme
for emerging professional musicians, offering intensive instrumental, vocal and composition
short courses including: early music, ensemble, orchestral, opera, song, chamber music,
composition and new music.
Courses are led by international artists and are offered by audition to advanced students and
young professionals from all over the world.
All courses last for five to ten days and end with public performance, frequently forming part
of the Aldeburgh Festival and other major concert series. BBC broadcasts and CD
recordings are also possible. Opera courses last for several weeks and culminate in fullystaged productions.
Aldeburgh Residencies are designed to provide a unique opportunity for established
musicians and other artists to experiment, take risks, develop new skills and recharge
creative batteries. The creation and dissemination of exciting new work is at the heart of the
programme. In addition to the existing Aldeburgh Residencies we launched Open Space in
2013: With the generous support of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, this has created a
