Brevard Cultural Alliance 2014-15 Technology Through the Arts Artist Residencies Application Deadline: December 19, 2014 Brevard Cultural Alliance invites Brevard Public Schools to apply for the next round of Technology Through the Arts residencies. These residencies are funded by Florida Arts License Plate Program. The program provides a series of intensive classroom sessions that immerse students in a particular art form through project-based activities under the instruction of a teaching artist. Residencies enhance existing curriculum and complement teachers’ instructional plans. Technology Through the Arts is a type of artist residency model that focuses even further on teaching 21st Century Skills by: Improving technology literacy through the use of equipment and software tools to create original art. Enhancing appreciation and understanding of artistic activity in the real world. Teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) content in new and creative ways through the addition of the arts in a cross-curricular fashion (STEM into STEAM). Fostering capacity for creativity and innovation. Implementing cross-curricular integration in the form of digital artwork that could be based on Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies content. Each selected school will receive: Up to 35 hours of instruction from a BCA teaching artist. Materials/supplies and/or computer software. Program coordination, support and evaluation. Only schools with an existing arts education program can apply. 2. Participants must be students enrolled in the hosting school. 3. Schools must briefly describe how they plan to use the residency to enhance their programs/curriculum, including subject, type of activity, grade level(s) of participating students and teacher/administrator liaison. 4. Schools must propose a potential schedule plan. This is will be later modified according to artist availability. 5. Activities should take place during January-May 2015. 6. Selection process concludes with artist's acceptance of your proposal. 7. If selected, a teacher/administrator liaison must meet at least once with the Teaching Artist and BCA Education Manager to discuss program activities, goals and schedule. - Please answer the following questions as specifically as possible. (For example: Digital Illustration, 3D Sculpting, Dance, Musical Theatre, etc.). Please mention if you/your school has plans to expand or enhance the program in any way or form. 11. Present a tentative schedule plan for the activities that includes number of classes and participants, number of lessons, and number of visits by teaching artists. Please consider that each artist's visit should last at least 3 hours. BCA will collaborate to assist with scheduling.
